Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
i think we will win, but i think we need to see a good fielding and bowling performance from these youngesters, and the batting will hopefully be awesome from the england boys

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
so England won the toss and have elected to bowl. Team is much as expected, with the possible exception of Finn being picked ahead of Anderson. Patel gets in ahead of Briggs.
England team: Craig Kieswetter (wk), Ravi Bopara, Jos Buttler, Alex Hales, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow, Samit Patel, Tim Bresnan, Graeme Swann (capt), Steven Finn, Jade Dernbach.
Order they were given in, but suggestion may be that this is the batting order, so Bopara opening? interesting call if so...

West Indies team
DR Smith, J Charles, MN Samuels, DP Hyatt, NE Bonner, DO Christian†, CD Barnwell, AD Russell, DJG Sammy*, D Bishoo, FH Edwards
Bowling looks pretty good, but batting a real weakness here. Wonder if Swanny will open the bowling to have a go at his bunny Smith...

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
Yeah I felt for Hales in that game. This has been a real chance to get some runs and get his career going.

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
Very good. Thus far it looks a very professional performance.
Excellent in the field and two good starts with the bat but they've never had anything to chase really.

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
This has been a easier win that I thought. Mid-way through the Windies first innings you would of thought it would be closer.
Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
yes they were hitting big.
when swannage went for 2 sixes and a four i thought they would get 160 ish.

Yes, as did a few on the chat box.
Looked a pretty decent batting pitch.

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
about three overs into this game I said 160 was a minimum score on this pitch. Haven't changed my mind watching England bat, they could have chased 180 here fairly comfortable IMO

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
who'd have thought Ravi would ever get a MOM award for his bowling (as seems likely)?
England cruise to yet another win in this remarkable summer.

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
That was a good win.
Yes it's a new Windies side but it was a new Eng side too and they still had to do the job. It was comprehensive, spearheaded by an amazing bowling performance by Ravi.

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
thing is England look so unflappable at the moment: KP gets rested, never mind, we smash India in the ODIs without him, and that's what, five captains this summer, winning under every one of them with no problems. Swanny captained pretty well today I thought. With now some young batting talent coming through, added to the remarkable strength in depth of our bowling things are looking very good indeed...

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
How did England lose? I watched West Indies bat and thought no point watching England as they'll hammer them again but they lost lol 88 runs only thats rubbish.
England need to get Bali Singh in to the side.

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
Woakes probably didnt "get a go" because they have a lot of fast bowlers already. The kids theyve tried out are filling specific roles where they have a deficeny in the side or lack reserves.
Borthwick...a batting spinner to challenge Fatel
Stokes/Bairstow/Buttler ... guys who can come in at 6/7 and hammer fast runs
Hales.. an opener giving the possibility of resting Cook ( or not playing him in T20) or playing one of the young keepers down the order rather than continuing with the keeper must open policy

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
cant believe we couldnt chase that down though, credit to west indies, but we should really chase that down, these players might be young, but they are quality, thats why they were picked to play.

England when put under the cosh and are under pressure are like the same old England of the 1990's in terms of being fallible to collapsing like a pack of cards.

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
I'd say a bit of both. The run out of Buttler by Sammy was quality fielding.

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
Not really good fielding just a lack of focus and leadership and some luck. It happens, especially in T20.
To be fair though healkdess chicken syndrome came form pressure to keep the scorebaord moving as England got behind the rate. England were desperalty short a proper batsman having packed the side with hitters

swanny has done very well with the captaincy in these 2 games.

In the field yes but when it was 2 batsmen out there theres not a lot Swann can do. Having a massively inexperienced batting lineup showed up.

Re: England vs West Indies t20 series
It happens in T20 though, thats both the beauty and the problem with the game you really never knwow hats goign to happen and very mediocre players can on occassion make very good ones look like idiots.
It does prove the point that theres still a place for proper batsmen in that format as well as the inovative big hitting lunatics. Having a Cook or Trott stay in alongside Stokes for 5 overs would have been enough to win England that game.
As it was they ended up witha bunch of healdess chickens who could decided wheter to look for the gaps or try and hit their way out of trouble and isntead try to run their way out.
Im really not convinced that Patel is a good enough batsman.
