England vs India, 5th ODI Debate
First topic message reminder :
So the 5th ODI between India and England is underway, the last act in a terrible summer tour for India, and an opportunity to win at least 1 international match.
A win for England would be a nice way to cap off a wonderful summer.
India have their regular quota of injury yet again, and this time, its their best bowler Praveen Kumar. R Vinay Kumar, and not Varun Aaron takes his place in the XI.
For England, Jimmy Anderson is getting a much deserved rest, and Jade Dernbach gets another game. Johnny Bairstow, the impressive young wicket keeper batsman from Yorks, is in pllace of Ben Stokes, and Samit Patel is getting another game.
The weather has already resulted in a delaied start, and further trouble can be expected.
Your thoughts?

i think the weather might be on the turn again. wind getting up and a huge bank of cloud as they panned out there. depends if that is coming in on the wind.

it's made it a dull series really. neither side has been able to really do it with the ball , just loads of bish bash bosh batting.
not so much my thing.

Re: England vs India, 5th ODI Debate
awful from Dernbache and good batting. 15 from the over.
this lad is showing anything that suggests he is remotely good enough at this level. He's responsible for the worst over of the game and upping the run rate for them lovely there.
The crowd crack me up, they go mental at everything. They never lose belief however much the pattern gets exactly the same as previous games.
They truly know this is their day today.

Good, Engs bowling looks toothless today. Shows what Anders and Broad bring.

Sheringham on the bbc suggesting Swann is faking injury to avoid bowling to these two.

yeah be nice for him to finish on a high. been a horrible final tour to England for him. Even a dead rubber win would be nice now you'd think.

I would imagine India would be disappointed if they didn't get 300 from here, with Raina, Dhoni et al. to come. Kohli has found some form at last!

Its good to see India getting into a good position. It will be good for them to sign off a tour with at least 1 win.

Dhoni and Raina in the middle, and its powerplay. Will India continue their recent good run in the PP, or play without sens and fall apart?

Re: England vs India, 5th ODI Debate
That was a brilliant over from Dernbach in the powerplay.
Cook hasn't quite managed his bowlers very well, Swann, the best bowler of the day, doesn't seem to be finishing his overs, or else he will have to bowl in the powerplay and may not be as effective as he could be.

Dernbach has done really well during the powerplay here. Will Bresnan bowlout after those 2 terrible last overs?

Finn to bowl, so Swann and Bresnan won't bowlout.

and now some unpleasantries here, Dhoni and Finn have a bit of issues. Good over nevertheless from Finn, Raina goes, not the most effective innings from him today.

Jadeja goes first ball, but Dhoni back on strike. Can't blaim Jadeja there, but a more conventional approach would have been to push the 1 and get Dhoni back on strike.

What is Swanny getting excited about there? Dernbach is messing it up, and umpire Billy B is getting them right.
3rd 50 in the series for the Indian captain, and this was a knock from the past.
and oh yes, India batted superbly well today, and so it has to rain!.

Re: England vs India, 5th ODI Debate
Quite remarkable before the WC final Dhoni couldn't hit the ball further than into the hands of any fielder in sight, yet since that innings he has gone 91*, 33, 6, 69, 78* and 50*. And there where calls for him to be dropped even though he averages nearly 50!

Another learning experience for Cook. Dont know what Cook wanted as a target but India are 25 beyond what I thought was gettable under lights.
India would have to bowl bad to let england near this. Could this be their first win !!

He was coming down the order then and as I wrote earlier, Dhoni v2 struggles to get the big shots away right from the word go, and often in while atempting the same, he found the fielders. We Are Number 1!!! wrote:Quite remarkable before the WC final Dhoni couldn't hit the ball further than into the hands of any fielder in sight, yet since that innings he has gone 91*, 33, 6, 69, 78* and 50*. Nobody sensible in India called for Dhoni to be dropped, particularly from the ODI side, but there were calls for him to rediscover his earlier version or bat up the order.
He did the latter in the WC final, and well, here today, it was the Dhoni of old, smashing it all over the place, plenty of those helicopter shots, and when he plays them well, you know its Dhoni of 2005-7.
Just brilliant from MS today.

I hope Ashwin and Jadeja will have a good game with the ball. There is not much to hope from our 200 mph pace bowling unit of Vinay, RP and Munna the legend!.

Re: England vs India, 5th ODI Debate
Although I would've preferred Dhoni V1 to rediscover his best form against the West Indies!!!, its be great entertainment. I remember his V1 days, that savage 183* vs SL including Murali and the 148 vs Pakistan. Awesome hitter in those days.msp83 wrote:He was coming down the order then and as I wrote earlier, Dhoni v2 struggles to get the big shots away right from the word go, and often in while atempting the same, he found the fielders. We Are Number 1!!! wrote:Quite remarkable before the WC final Dhoni couldn't hit the ball further than into the hands of any fielder in sight, yet since that innings he has gone 91*, 33, 6, 69, 78* and 50*. We might get twenty over and consolation for india yet.
Typical stupid dl target here.

I hope cook learns from this and has the nerve to bat first in future.
He keeps giving away the initiative. Perhaps he wanted practice for his young bowlers.
