The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of great current hookers pictures on the bar. We've got Tincu, Ledesma, Ford, Best, Thompson and Bennett all in action. Graffiti's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

How many should they have allowed for?
I think any solution that involves an obligation to provide sites can not be left to councils. How does a rural council accomidate and pay for that number of extra people arriving in a short space of time?
Thats one site. They used to be legally obliged to provide caravan sites, up until 1994 when it was removed from law.

Ahaa! That is the source of the problem then. Right there.

Should there be a big fund paid for by the travellers from which these sites can be provided?
Totally agree that there has to be give and take but it would appear to be one sided at the moment.
Mrs P. If you are referring still to Dale Farm.
They bought the land but built on it without permission.
All this Council talk of green field sites is rubbish. It was a brown field site.
But they aggressively built on the land despite local protests and are now placing themselves in the pitiful role of subjugated victims.
In that sense I have no sympathy. The self-styled travellers are placing themselves in the oxymoronic position of having to defend a position of wanting to be forever static.
But I remain ambivalent.

Ferris was immense. Watching him now, blow their backrow out of the water. Punching holes. Causing havoc. But SOB - out of position, played very clever rugby. Heaslip needs to join them. That happens and I almost feel sorry for the backrow that comes up against them. Well... not sorry...
Also, Id pick Murray to start v Russia. Plays well in that one and I'd leave him there for Italy. I like what I see. He is excellent. He gives us another dimension and thats what it will take if we even dream to.. Im NOT saying it. Nope.

Sexton
Wallace
Earls
Trimble

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Francois Pienaar makes an excellent point at HT.
"Yih, they are throwing the kitchen sink at them, but mist throw more than that at them. Sexton should not have gone for the DG there. 4 men outside im. Go for the try. They must up that mindset" Or words to that effect.
And we will need to do that in the Knockouts. Starting to do it v Russia. Our backline is not taking full advantage for our forward-power domination in this game.
If we manage that.... who knows? This team can be so much better. Its up to the coaches to move it on up as a unit now.
Our forwards are close to perfection here (Heaslip the weak link in this one). If we can get our backs to do the same...

I think Murray needs to start with Sexton. I am starting to believe they are our best combination and need more time together now. Leave Boss & ROG on the bench.
I don't want to start a row, but Earls is... We need Trimble to take over. Really. McFadden in too.
MUST rest Ross. He is KEY. More key than BOD even.

Never said we didn't need Fez, ya WUM!
Jenno is STILL the best 7 we have. I'll never back down on that one.
Pocock being out, gave SOB room to bully a rookie. Jennings would have eaten him. Had we lost with Pocock dominating the breakdown.... well. It would have been a HUGE I told ye so.
But, this is all part of it ya know... Injuries cost Oz dearly. Lets not get all Irish and illogical on that one.

I'm pretty sure you said we didn't need Fez. In fact you weren't sure he would make the team if he was fit.
So, you'd have played SOB and Jennings if Pocock had been fit?

Yes. 1F with Jenno. But Kidney wouldn't, so its immaterial now. If Heaslip doesn't start moving, Id bring him in. Put SOB at 8.

With so many parallels between England and Ireland in their fluctuating fortunes - albeit each just about equally on opposite sides of the cusp of a re-build, I find it interesting to hear of a willingness to put a just-good-enough Irish side out against Russia.
I'd be going for a full-strength English team myself against Romania. Get the job done and then bring on the Jocks.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think Jennings is the best 7 we have, but we can get by without a 7. We are stronger without it even.
This leaves us with weaknesses, but almost no team has no weaknesses. Leaving out one of Ferris or O'Brien leaves us with bigger weaknesses because we lack backs who can get gainline success- our backrow need to be able to really carry the ball very aggressively. Our centres in defence and attack are a bigger weakness.

I think the point is Jenno doesn't bring enough to the table to compensate for the loss of one of Ferris/O'Brien.
The breakdown is an area where its possible to attack/defend in so many different ways. We don't need to commit to any one given way.

Looking at that Tommy Bowe surge. It helped win us the game in the end. But, in future games Tommy. DONT LOOK BACK ya gobshote! You were there man.
Little moments like that make the differ at the highest level.
BTW I disagree Notch. I always will on that point. This Irish obsession with 3 ball-carriers does not work with me. We don't need em. We have enough of them in the side.
Wales, (if we meet them in the QF's) with Warburton, will test this theory severely.
Anyway.
Rogan Josh for Dinner. 15 different herbs and spices. Cooked to perfection by yours truly.
We are talking the perfect XV here...

You mean the yellow Ulster flag? Standard practice at all international games and has been for as long as I can remember. There's no officially recognised flag for Northern Ireland, just the UK as a whole, and it wouldn't be appropriate to fly that flag so the yellow flag is a tasteful choice.

At home games it's flown on the roof of the stadium, but in the Six Nations there are no flags on the pitch before kick-off as far as I know? The World Cup features anthems with a side order of flags. There you go.
Can we talk about bagpipes? New Zealand are really bad hosts to have banned bagpipes and brass bands. These characteristic sounds in the crowd are as big a part of the identity of Scotland and France as the Haka is of New Zealand. What, do we want to drain all the colour out of international rugby? Make it a bland corporate event?
Some Scottish guy flew to the other side of the world with his pipes at great expense only to be turned away at the gate. That's wrong. We need guys like that- real fans- to add a bit of much needed lustre and atmosphere to proceedings. It's been going on in the Six Nations for years with no problems.

I have never noticed it before!
On the "noisy instruments" ban.
I would hate to be sitting/standing anywhere near anyone playing them during a match.
I know Asbo won't agree as one of his mates brings his pipes to games I think.
Sorry buddy!

Ah come on! It's not incessant. Someone stands up, plays a bit, watches the game.
Vuvuzelas, now those are a problem. Bagpipes, used responsibly, are surely not? More NIMBYism!

You just wait and see what I would do if someone started to play the bagpipes in my back yard!
To say nothing about what the dog would make of it!
My childhood was blighted by a neighbour who practiced his bag pipes from about April through to August.
With his windows open.
Usually when I was trying to study!
Not my fav instrument.
Those bands at French games would drive me insane too !

I don't think thats part of the tradition of rugby though. Bagpipes, bands etc. are part of our tradition, part of the heritage of our sport.
It's the same with flags. I'm pro-flags and banners, shows a lot of support for the team, but would be against bringing something else unrelated to rugby to a game if it obstructed peoples view. Like umbrellas or Toby Faletau.
If you want a perfect view, a perfect listening experience, why are you at the game? TV will give you the perfect view right from your seat. Going to games is about shouting your head off in support of your team, showing your passion for the team and supporting them as much as possible. Also showing what's unique about you and your nation. You can't ban bagpipes.
I've been to double figures of Scotland internationals, one season went to every one of their AI and 6N games. I've been seated near pipers, and it adds so much value to the experience. A lot of the time the crowd noise at international tests doesn't offer value for money so pipers are essential!

There's always someone who brings their umbrella to a game at Ravenhill. It's normally opened to a torrent of objections matched by the torrent of rain. However umbrellas are tolerated before the game and at half time.
It's Ravenhill. You need to dress accordingly.

I've finally got my hands on my new Scarlets rugby shirt!
Only 2 gripes with it: the Dyfed Steel logo on the front is too big an covers up too much of the dragon design. The sponsor on the back is too big so the name you get put on the shirt is smaller then it should be.
Other then that I love it. They've got a line from Sospan Fach written on the inside of the coller, on the sleaves they have heart & soul in english on one and in welsh on the other, and they've also got 5000 embroidered on it as well to mark our 5000th game this season (which I'm still gutted I'm going to miss on Saturday )
