The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of great current hookers pictures on the bar. We've got Tincu, Ledesma, Ford, Best, Thompson and Bennett all in action. Graffiti's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

But the Out Half is a 1/2 = 8/16 and the centre is a 5/8 = 10/16 is the average is 9/16.
Kiwi explained it all to me one time.

Ah, but they would ahve to freely interchange for that to be so!
Can we only call them 9/16 if they are getting in each others way?
I have to post this; can you imagine the fun they had recording it?

So,
ROG is a 17/32nd and Sexton a 19/32nd?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
What's most effective with two playmakers like that is to have a winger pick a line between them in midfield, Ulster style.
In that instance Tommy Bowe would be 18/32nd assuming he timed his run is such a way that he was behind ROG and ahead of Sexton when he received the ball

But, but, but...a wing 3/4 would be 24/32nd?
I don't think Kiwi's theory holds up very well.
Which was my original assertion!

Going to 16th's would be silly, most teams only field 15 men . That's why we added a 2nd 5/8th instead

More seriously, someone in the NH came up with the terms for the halves, the three quarters and the fullback, which reflected how the organised their back-lines at the time. NZ started playing a more staggered formation based around their 7-man scrum, so modified the terms accordingly.
Old-style NH backline
_____________________Scrum-Half
____________________________Fly Half
Wing 3/4_____Centre 3/4__________Centre 3/4_________Wing 3/4
____________________________ Full Back
Old-style NZ backline
_____________________ Wing-Forward
_________________________________ Half Back
________________________1st 5/8 ________________2nd 5/8
Wing 3/4______________________Centre 3/4 _____________________Wing 3/4
______________________________ Full Back
Note too that NZ couldn't use fractions in the forwards as forwards don't understand fractions

I notice you didn't say that when prop or Rev were about.
Or are you only insulting Kiwi forwards?

Well I was only taking about NZ - I'm a Kiwi ex-forward after all . Though I could note that no other country managed to put fractions in their forward packs either . Except for the "eighth man" of course.
Back in the days of the 2-3-2 scrum NZ didn't have a hooker either (the prop closest to the scrum feed hooked the ball). Nowadays we often pick A Hore there to make up for it

You were a forward from New Zealand?
That should make it interesting for you at work.

Hi Hughie Can't listen to your song though. I have no internet again (well less than 3G)
Damaged my quad a bit. Hopefully it's ok as I have a course next week where I'll be running around carrying a heavy bergen. Might have to give my rugby a miss At least I have a few days to rest.

Epic wasn't it?
From my spot I thought Cluxton missed it, checked the crowd behind the hill, mentalness ensued. Me and Eoin in floods of tears, bananas wouldn't cover it. First txt I got was from Gibbo, happy head on him!

Has anyone considered that if we lose to Italy then the pool will come down to points diff? We might have to stick a cricket score on the Ruskis to be safe!

Notch wrote about. He said that if Ireland lost to Italy, as long as Italy got the winning bonus point against the USA and Australia did in their remaining games, we are out.

It's going to be damn tough. Sergio Parisse will be a lot tougher opposition on his own that the Aussie backrow but this Irish has got the wind up its arssse now.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Ah yeah, I think we can win them both. Just nervous of a slip up. Have Ireland ever had a great win in the WC and then capitulated? Nope, we've been plucky losers then capitulated. But this is knock out rugby, all our lads know how to play it. Am starting to notice a bit of needle in the welsh posters on here (not in the pub mind you) towards the Irish. No harm, makes it all a bit more ineresting! As if it needed spicing up!
Munsty, no idea how to handle that mate. I'm pretty bad when it comes to that type of thing!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
What IF Italy beat us? Man... I want 5 pts from that game. Lets not get caught up in the usual scrum-fest alone. Lets run rings around them.
ROG at 10 and Sexton at 12 would be perfect for that. IMO.
Having said that. A rake of tries v Russia, would be great insurance and set that up. Our backline must match our pack now. I love Reddan, but I am starting to feel that Murray could be the answer. He is brilliant getting the ball away at the base of a scrum or ruck. A better all-round footballer. Give em a half each v Russia. See what pans out.

Yah know Mick. Can I say this pal?
Up De Dubs!
You must be in Heaven man. All that loyal support. All that pain in the rain. All the false dawns... All the ribbing.
Now fully justified.
You carry yourself well in Victory, Sir. Very well indeed. As you do in Defeat. Both those imposters treated the same way.
As for the Russia game. I think we need some form of continuity now. Need to utilise it well, to ready ourselves for the battles ahead.
I know he will rest Ross and POC and Dorce are not available. Just think we need to start to try sticking to some fixed combos now.
And Trimble in. Full stop. BOD can have a rest too now. Hes not 100%
And WHY does this gobshoite website want me to spell utilise as utiliZe? Really pishes me off that!
No to AMENG! Yes to UK Eng!

I don't want this to sound like I'm on the wind up but when did the Welsh backrow suddenly become so "formidable" in everyone's minds? It certainly isn't an area of their team I'd be worried about.
