First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of great current hookers pictures on the bar. We've got Tincu, Ledesma, Ford, Best, Thompson and Bennett Shocked all in action. Graffiti's a banning offence Wink

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Ale cuppa coffee mug guinness cider RedWine Bubbly

Hows all with you. Seems the English media is doing all it can to hurt their teams chances.

To me apart from poor discipline it looks to be going well for your boys.

Also Welsh fans - is this it for Stephen Jones.

All good with me mate, apart from being knackered having to be mumy and daddy to the kids to a certain extent whilst the wifes hand heals up, oh and having a busted computer.

England are going on ok, discipline at the breakdown is an issue, but not one that can't be rectified pretty simply. I don't hold with the school of thought that we need to be crucifying teams at this stage. You build into world cups and need to perform in the knockout phase. Nobody is going to give us the trophy for putting 100 points on Romania.

Ah Stag, the pub can be hiberno-centric at times, but it's not a problem from what I can see. I dip in all the time and don't always comment if the discussion is something that I either have no knowledge of or no opinion on. It's not a problem, people are free to talk about what they like in here and it is only natural that people will talk about things that are close to them, so as there are many Irish in here, the will by nature be much Irish discussion. (Plus you feccers can talk for....... well...... Ireland Leprechaun Wink )

I'm not familiar with properly musical terms. My pal got his masters in Music last week, i should really mine him for some tips...

Yesh pal. That may be written a Cmaj(G) because the bass note is G. It's just the addition of one note but what it means is its the second inversion of the chord because the bass note is not the tonic (C). So it implies a very slightly different harmony.

Think of the bass notes a anchors and the treble notes as melodic leads. If the chord is C major but the melody is resting on a G, you can fret the G on the E string to be in unison nicely with the melodic line. Also, don't forget a lot of chords are essentially interchangeable.

For instance, Amin7 is A-C-E-G. You'll notice that C major is C-G-E. So if you're playing a song like the house of the rising sun that goes from A minor to C you can play the change as.

0 - 0
1 - 1
0 - 0
2 - 2
0 - 3
x - x

This means you only change the bass note and keep your fingers on the shape lower on the fretboard so it makes your job MUCH easier. Being able to play fluently is about economy of movement. The less you have to move your fingers the quicker you'll be able to correctly position them.

Also, because Amin7 is so, so similar to C major you can use it as a chord substitution for C at certain times for an interesting affect. This is called diatonic reharmonisation. thumbsup

Oh, and for anyone who thinks this is double dutch; you should see me trying to explain the intricacies of rugby to my musician friends!

I'm pretty much in a can't be bothered coming in here mood too, especially with limited Internet like I have at the minute. I'll be in here a lot less now anyway, with courses etc over the next week. Probably a good thing. If I wasn't so keen on trying to find out from anywhere news on Lydiate, I'd be offline right now (not sure why I look in yer mind).

Morning all.

One for the "News of the Weird" files
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/cricket/news/article.cfm?c_id=29&objectid=10752550
Former NZ cricket great (and current Sky NZ executive) Martin "Russell's Cousin" Crowe is coming out of club cricket retirement aged 49 in an effort to make the Auckland 1st class side and cross off a couple of milestones -retirement due to chronic knee problems meant he finished on 247 1st class games and 19,608 runs.

Good on him if he manages it, but how gutted would you feel as a player if you missed out on a 1st class spot to someone twice your age ...

Yes it will help us on two fronts (should both England and Ireland reach the SF):

a) It will allow us to approach a potential England game without the burden of being odds on favourites.

b) It will delude England into thinking they can beat us.

Sure anyone can tell you that. Not me, because I can't remember the chords off the top of my head, but most people...

That's how it goes at parties if I'm playing the guitar. I'll play something and someone will ask me about it and I'll talk a bit about it. Then they'll say 'can you play (Pop song)' and I'll say- "well, yeah, in theory but I've not actually ever looked at learning the chord progression and I'd need to hear it and take some time to figure it out by ear so... no".

At which point they'll look disappointed and leave to talk to someone else Shocked

12 years of playing guitar and I still can;t use it to pick up girls at parties apparently. There you go.

Then aye this will be his last competition playing for Wales. I think the original plan would have been to have him last until the 6N's to ease one of say Priestland or Tovey in, but due to injury we've called on Priestland sooner then we were planning I think and I'm still amazed at how easily he's slotted in, tis great.

I think Stevo will get some game time against Namibia and possibly Fiji and is a great guy to have around the squad in a wc environment, but yeah this'll be it for him I reckon.

Anyone see those try scoring stats I put in here yesterday?

Not an indicator of much but interesting if taken in isolation.

Australia are the only team to have not conceded a try.
The only teams to have scored less tries than Ireland are Georgia, USA and Wales.
Namibia, Canada and Scotland have scored more tries than Ireland.

Mickado - yes I remember that post. I'm not surprised by Oz's defence. It is always impressive at world cups. When they won it in 1999 they conceded only one try in the whole tournament. Anyone remember which team breached their line.

That, and the secret radioactive waste dump buried deep underneath Dublin that has begun to seep into the water supply...

I've said too much!! censored

There’s that too Notch, but I’m not complaining about the gigantism of the arms. It makes scratching yourself in those hard to reach places a sinch!

I've quite a small head. Hats don't suit me.

I'd liked to have had been in the bowler hat/fedora era nonetheless Smile

Small? Sure it's more like the head of a pin! You could hardly balance anything on that thing Smile

I can't say I ever noticed your small head. I myself own a variety of hats- my favourite of which is a green beret that I bought for a gig with a band called Toy Army, the dress code for the band was military themed.

I can wear a beanie but I look ridiculous in a cap. I'd quite like to get a bowler hat.

Can’t wear hats neither.

Maybe it’s an Ulster thing…?
