The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of great current hookers pictures on the bar. We've got Tincu, Ledesma, Ford, Best, Thompson and Bennett all in action. Graffiti's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

I really don't like those baggy beanies you see people wearing. A few weeks ago I saw a bloke wearing one of those gnome hats, a pair of jeans and flip-flops. If it's warm enough to be wearing flip-flops, it's not cold enough to be wearing a woollen hat!

Have any of you had the misfortune to see me in my Russian hat?
All I can say is that it has to be very very very cold before I am willing to wear it.
That is how little I suit hats!
Funny thing is, all my kids really suit hats!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Quality trivia Hound.
My girlfriend wears hats, all kinds of mad hats that I’d never wear. Like, what’s the one that the 40’s / 50’s new reporters stuck their press card in (you know, in all those stereotypes)? She’s got one of them. Looks good on her, I look like a deviant in it though…

I thought Pete was just voicing his opinion on the hat debate.
As a member of Londons finest, he has no doubt to always have the head covered.

You need to have a certain style to be able to wear some hats and get away with it. If I was to wear a flat cap, say, it would look so out of place balancing on my head.

Bad day at the office. I'll be right though, just a few problems that have landed in my lap. Going to be a test of my problem solving ability to get round them, as well as my juggling of resources ability!!!
Hats don't look good on me, I hated wearing mine when I was in uniform, always looked huge on my head.
And Mickado, you look like a deviant, hat or no hat!

What kind of hat do you wear for uniform Pete? A flat cap type affair or is it more in the helmet style of things?
Check me out, hat expert!

I have a custodian helmet and a flat cap.
Custodian for foot patrol, flat cap when driving.
Having said that, as a force we have a new uniform now, and I don't think the custodians are worn much as they don't look right with the new tops.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Interesting that Pete. Sent me off to look up uniforms for Police officers in Northern Ireland and I found this;
Eh, right so! You're fooling nobody there PSNI. I know your game
Those old style Police hats are classics of design. Is it true that if you're caught short as a member of the public you can request to use a Policeman's Helmet as an... erm... appropriate device to avoid the desecration of public walkways? Or is that an urban myth?
The PSNI badge features the St. Patrick's saltire, and six symbols representing different and shared traditions:
The Scales of Justice (representing equality and justice)
The harp (a traditional Irish symbol but not the Brian Boru harp used as an official emblem in the Republic)
A torch (representing enlightenment and a new beginning)
An olive branch (a peace symbol from Ancient Greece)
A shamrock (a traditional Irish symbol, used by St Patrick, patron saint of all Ireland, to explain the Christian Trinity)
A crown (a traditional symbol of royalty but not one worn by or representing the British Sovereign)
Eh, right so! You're fooling nobody there PSNI. I know your game

I believe it's an urban myth notch, although I stand to be corrected if anyone can find me the ancient legislation petaining to it.

Apparently in Ireland the Gardai are allowed to hit you with their torch, but they don’t carry around batons/nightsticks whatever their called.
You’d think if they’re lawfully allowed to hit you with a torch, which is pretty bloody big and heavy, they’d just cut the charade and give them a proper head whomping stick…

Ozzy(Pete),
I think they do a fine job but I just get annoyed by the questions they ask and the way they ask them. If you reply in the same tone/manner, you'll be in trouble.

You know the Gardai are one of the most heavy-handed police forces in Europe?
Funny enough, I hardly believed it myself until last time I was down in Dublin. Was walking down O'Connell Street when I noticed a guy in tracksuit arguing with some girls who were dressed as if on a Hen night- next thing is the Gaurds arrive, grab this guy, force him to the ground, roughly push his head down into the pavement and handcuff him. Throw him in the back of the cafr and off they go. No warning; no reading of rights or dialogue. I've no idea what the lad had done or not done but it seemed a wee bit... pre-emptive.
There was of course one South Dublin woman shouting about police brutality to the large crowd that assembled- in Ireland, sometimes everyone has a strong opinion about everything they're not shy of voicing! To be fair I could see her point.

That's basically how they used to teach Irish in Schools before World War 2 to be fair. Those lads were, in their own simple way, doing their bit for cross-community relations and education in the North.
So, a weird thing happened in the barbers today- I was getting a haircut, and the fella shaved my neck. Is this normal? He didn't shave it all the way down either. I suppose he was worrying about wandering into back territory, but I was generally just looking for him to deal with the head.
He didn't mention it either, he just kind of did it. Should I be happy?
