The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of great current hookers pictures on the bar. We've got Tincu, Ledesma, Ford, Best, Thompson and Bennett all in action. Graffiti's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

You buy a newspaper and feel obliged to read all of it before you throw it in the bin and you think that's a better option than reading what you want to read on the internet, and not creating any waste?

I am finding predicting the scores of Figi v Samoa and Argentina v Scotland very difficult in the next round of games. Any help would be appreciated.

I've gone for Samoa by 8 and I think I picked Scotland by 4 or 5, can't remember which but took me ages to decide. Going to be close ones for sure I reckon.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
These two games have the potential to be the closest contests yet. I am leaning towards Samoa in their game but cannot decide on the other one.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Not rude at all Luckless. I can imagine it seemed like a very random question.
Basically I've got a request for a team who want to go on a drinking tour where they can play a game or two. They specified Wales.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Ah, I see. Well there are rugby clubs all over Wales. North Wales has plenty too, not just south Wales. If they want to play a couple of games and win both, they should take Dreamer's advice and go to Carmarthenshire!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Transport and accomodation may be more of an issue in Carmarthenshire but there's loads of clubs here, I know of quite a few that often go on tours to Ireland. I'm not all that clued up on clubs in Cardiff but Prop would be the guy to ask about them.
But then if it's a drinking tour they want....Cardiff would be easier I guess. I dunno, either option would be good

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I get the feeling that they have no interest in winning. They suggested they wanted to play teams who would understand its ok to play when hungover

To be honest I suspect they won't use Wales in the end. They've asked for various locations at different price levels. At the top end I've sorted out Argentina and South Africa. At the very bottom its a trip to either Belfast or Wales. Few more in the middle.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
ha well any club in Wales will unerstand playing hungover Stag. But for what it sounds like they're going for, Cardiff would be your best bet.

Why pay more for Argentina when you can pay less and visit Belfast though?

That's because there isn't an "E" in their whiskey. Have Gibbo and I taught you nathin!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
No its just that Best and Wallace are the only ones I've seen described as tokens. I've never ever seen anyone refer to Ferris as a token Ulsterman before.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
And Andrew Trimble. And Tom Court.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Cant say I've heard it about them myself. I always thought that token implied only one player was selected.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
He's too good to be a token. If Wallace or Court or whoever were to come on in the last game against Italy and score the decisive try, they'd be good Irish boys. If they gave away a penalty which cost us the match they'd be a token prod and an Aussie respectively.
You know how people always complain that the British press refers to the likes of Andy Murray as British when he's winning and Scottish when he's losing? Well hypocrisy is not limited to Britain!
I read someone calling big TC 'Agent Court' after he was pinged when he came on for Mike Ross against Australia. Didn't hear much about that about Keith Gleeson as an example!

I would imagine the people who regard those players as tokens are not likely to be concerned about semantics.

Stag
Notch Wallace or Court would never be credited with scoring the "decisive try" only finishing from the "decisive pass" from <insert Southern player here>.
All week the papers have been discussing the Irish inside centre issue and Wallace name has hardly been mention, it's all about Sexton, McFadden and D'arcy.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I was halfway through typing a reply to Luckless saying I hoped he was ok. Then I read the bloody punchline
I think the reason Wallace doesn't get more credit is that we don't use the inside pass enough for Ireland. It appears to be Ulsters only attacking weapon. So for example when he had a two on one against Wales and refused to pass to Keith Earls, he wasn't being greedy, he just isn't used to making normal passes

I've never seen anyone refer to Tom Court as an Aussie, in fact is forgotten about it until a commentator mentioned it the other day

They had a decent run though, R.E.M. Early '80s to the early 2010s isn't bad.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Not a wum, I really think Ireland should pick Wallace at 12 against Russia AND Italy. I'm not a fan of Darcy and McFadden isn't a 12 IMO. Sexton at 12 is best used later in a game. Wallace at 12 for next 2 matches and use Trimble and Bowe on the end of inside passes.

Exactly Luck. I am sure it was invented years ago in a different context and then adapted to announce the split.
To be honest I had actually thought they were done a few years ago anyway

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Micky having one attacking weapon isn't a bad thing. The scrum appears to be Irelands only attacking weapon so far this World Cup. Munster won a Heineken Cup based almost solely on the pick and drive ball retention game.
