Davis Cup
Whoopee - GB beat Hungary rather superbly today !
BUT
Where do we go from here? Back up to a Group that will Marmalise us ?
And Exactly WHICH Group are we talking about because I am confused, bewildered and ignorant atm.

Euro Africa Group 1 I think. One tier below the World Group.

Re: Davis Cup
yummymummy the reality is whatever spin the LTA try to put on it we're still essentially a one man team.
To get anywhere near even making the world group stage we need ideally another top 100 player. Ward may be that guy but why is he on current form going to get better results than Bogdanovic did?

Re: Davis Cup
And that's as far as theyll go... unfortunately James Ward isn't too good off the grass, still atleast Ward has got some bo5 set matches under his belt!

Re: Davis Cup
Sorry but, Ward is clearly a bit better than the mentally weak Boggo. Eight wildcards and still not even CLOSE to a win in the first round... clearly in a few years Britain have a decent chance again with Broady, Golding, Edmund and Morgan playin well.Ward may be that guy but why is he on current form going to get better results than Bogdanovic did?

Re: Davis Cup
JM the jury must still be out on Ward. Hope you're right in having confidence in him but he looks like the kind of player who might do OK at Queens win a match or two at Wimbledon and little else.
Out of the other players Golding looks like a potential top 100 player in the making and could make a good no.2 in several years time (yes i am crystal ball gazing here but his poor Wimbledon was probably down to the sad death of his coach and he showed what he is capable of at the US Open).
Of the rest the one who really stands out is Edmund. Mature beyond his years making semi-finals of US at only 16.

Re: Davis Cup
Sweden have been a one man team for a few years with Söderling but they seem to do alright and have never slipped to the depths that GB have.
