Worst ever round thread
I'll start
went round this sunday in a medal in 134 (one hundred and thirty-four)
Motocaddy that is two weeks old brok down on the 15th
7 off the tee on one hole
forgot how to hold the golf club midway through first hole
soaked through
stone in my shoe for three holes
needed a shyte for 9 holes
don't want to go the club anytime soon as i am so embarrassed so will send the missus to pick up the battery
Got home in time to see Rangers pumping Celtic, gutted
took it out on her sunday evening (didn't really) but woke up this morning in a sweat and she assured me sunday hadn't neeb a bad dream and was real

Re: Worst ever round thread
Worst round I can recollect was the first time I ever ventured out on a golf course (well first time in about 25 years - I did play a couple of years as a junior but didn't pick up a club again until mid 30s)
The round was 121 (still remember it was a 65-56 split)
I do remember playing a C medal at my club once though and I had a bad day (something like 104 gross) - but that gross still beat one of my opponent's NET score - so he must've shot something in the region of 130

Re: Worst ever round thread
My worst ever round has to be when i was 14 played my first ever competition, was so damn nervous that I struggled with nearly every shot, didnt help that I was put out with our Junior Club champ a guy off of 3 at the time. Think I took 9 shots to get to the first green, and shot something in the region of 108 whilst play of 18 net 90 wasn't good. Strangely though a year later I was playing against the same lad in final of our Junior matchplay and we played off scratch as we had the same handicap, he beat me on the last but i'd come a long way in that year...
If your talking absolute worst round I was privvy to, played with a young lad in junior cup (junior club champ), he got a severe case of the shanks on the 2nd fairway and had something that must've been in the region of 50 consective "el Hosels" I still remember he went out in the front half of 71 and came back 53 for a round of 124. What made it even worse on approaching the 18th green we heard a fore shout everyone ducked unforunately for Mr124 as he lowered his head the ball bounce off the turn in front of him square into his face. Claret everywhere... That same young man is still a friend of mine and is now a very good club pro at one of the local municiples and actually tells the storey of that day to his junior students to show them things will always be hard but by sticking at it you can achieve what you like

Re: Worst ever round thread
My first round as a young golf pro aged 16.
I had been playing well, and was full of confidence.
It was a Pros Winter League on a fairly easy course.
After a good drive I hit a mid iron over the green and into jungle, ended up with a 7 and the confidence just drained out of me, limped home in the high 80's.

My worst was many moons ago when the boss caught us leaving early with clubs as he stepped into the lift on the 3rd floor(our office on the 5th).
Managed 15 holes in searing heat and had two days off work with sunstroke.

Re: Worst ever round thread
Worst rounds aren't always the ones with the worst scores.
I think my worst round was in the company of the club's "Shooter McGavin" which culminated in him asking me for a fight on the 9th green.
I still put a good enough score in to qualify for the Club champs though but a deeply unpleasant 18 holes to endure.

Actually thinking about my worst round was probably three years ago when I played usual Saturday morning game whilst my wife of twenty years and lovely 10 yr old daughter were moving out of the house.Arrived home to find the house empty.cold.silent some items of furniture missing ,books gone along with washing machine.kettle,iron.
Thats what you call a bad round but obviously I didnt want to let the lads down

Re: Worst ever round thread
last season i had a 102 in a mid-week medal, my first ever round over 100 with a handicap. one of those days that even my good shots were turning on me. i had tops, fluffs, chunks, sh**ks, hooks, slices, 4putts... i didn't hit a shot cleanly all day, not even with the putter. it was highly embarrasing.

My worst round was 6 1/2 hours on a golf course, with 3 Japanese customers, who could speak only a little English and my Japanese is non-existent, that is a long time to just try and keep smiling, it was all down to the chairman of the Japanese company, who was in the 4 ball in front and his first time on the golf course, and none of the other Japanese player would play through, our dinner that evening was very late and cold.

Re: Worst ever round thread
Every time I play...
Just recently carded 128 and 123 in two consecutive weeks of 18 holes.
Suppose that's what you get when you don't play for 2 years, and even then I only ever got 110's etc.

Seem to recall I played pretty well on said day,put the winnings towards a new iron(electric).Funny how you deal with stuff like going to the laundrette and dragging an old table out of the garage to eat off.
Still in the house actually difficult to sell.
No way I was going to stand and watch so much better to spend the morning with friends on the course.Moved on now playing better as well!

That's mah boy! It puts it all into perspective doesn't it. Losing a wife, home and contents clearly isn't as bad as 4 putting from 10 feet

Re: Worst ever round thread
Played in a national comp about 2 months ago. My handicap is 8 and I shot a 99 having made a par4 on the tough 18th. Worst part was when I put 4 tee shots, with my driver, in a lake which I eventually carried easily with a hybrid. About a dozen people round the tee and I just wanted to disappear. I was going to chuck my driver in the lake but then realised that I could get about £50 as a trade-in.

Re: Worst ever round thread
Anytime the missus moans about my golf I tell her it was her fault. You got me the tuition, stay and play weekend in Cornwall. You took us on another holiday tuition thing with the same pro six months later in Portugal and you then said it would be a waste of all that money if I didn't join a club.
Apparently I am in a bit of trouble because we did make a deal, that if she ever took up golf I had to go for dance lessons with her. She started playing last year well after I had given up on her ever taking it up. I maintain that she did it on her own accord so I don't have to go dancing.
Worst round must have came last year when I didn't break 100 on the first day of the club championships. I knew there was a bad blowout round coming but didn't really expect it to happen then. Made to feel especially worse as I was defending champion at the time. Improved by 18 shots the next day as everyone else went backwards but not enough to recover for the knockout stages.

My worst round for a long long time was the 109 I shot on the opening 18 at Meyrick Park this year, which included a stoating 11 on that horrible, between the trees uphill par-4. I remember being met by a grinning LJ and family at 19th hole and having to explain that I'd scuttled around more trees than a Hobbit during my eventful round. Couldn't wait to down several pints in Bournemouth and look laciviously at anything approaching adulthood in a short skirt; anything to distract me from the absolute sh!te round

Hahahaha you couldn't have been that badly scarred by the experience judging by your wandering eyes in the pub that night.

Pedro/Doon he wasn't even the worst player on the day, there was another fella +36 through 15holes, however the CT stopped showing his score after that so we never saw his final round total but even if he'd par'd in he would have shot 108 but was more on course for something like 115

Re: Worst ever round thread
20 of us were on a golf tour in Spain. We were due to play the Europa course at La Cala which I think is the most difficult of the three courses at that resort. It was getting near to the end of the trip and we had all spent a very late night in Puerto Banus the previous evening.
When we arrived it was blowing a bit of a hooly and we were all feeling the effects of too much alcohol and not much sleep. I felt crap, was really struggling and finding it difficult to score, every stableford point made was a real effort and felt like a major achievement. I rallied a bit on the back nine and ended up making a miserable 22 points.
I came 2nd! 24 points was the winning score!

Re: Worst ever round thread
Some years ago a group of sixteen of us played in what was then a four day event called the 'Budweiser' competition centred in the midlands of Ireland around the Portlaoise area. If anyone gets the chance, I'd strongly recommend visiting this area for the golf courses Abbeyleix, Rathdowney and many others are real hidden gems off the beaten track- so to speak.
Anyway, everyone over indulged with the pop and we all had dreadful first rounds possibly as a result of the overnight ferry and falling off the bus to the first tee. My mate and I were paired up against a couple of Belgiums and we proceeded to play the course. Sadly, neither I, my mate nor our paying partners performed at all; the Belgiums mustered 15 points between them I came in with 10 points. My mate had no stableford points at all!! Not one, never looked like getting one, zilch.
Generally we had our own little comp for the week, but in this case we decided to award him the best prize and all the balls for the week for having the guts to finish the round. That was my worst round but it was still ten times better that the Champion!

Re: Worst ever round thread
Obviously have shot well over 100 when i first started playing but memory of those isnt great (and when you first take it up your not really bothered about shooting in 100s)
The worst i remember playing though (irrelevant of standard) was in the Prince of Wales trophy (its an under21s competition @ Woburn.
I was off either 1 or 2 at the time and playing well (either 2004 or 2005) Its one of the few rounds i remember almost every shot on.
I shot a very rerspectable 74 in the morning on the duchess course. Felt confident of getting in the top 5 with another similar round.. However!!!!!!!!
Went out for the afternoon round on the Dukes course and proceded to hit the ball with what i can only describe as the shaft of my driver, and it went about 5 yards past the ladies tee, hit the next one fat down the left rough still about 180 out then thinned it over the green, took a penalty drop from behind a tree, duffed a chip and 3 putted for a 9.
It didnt get any better after that and i came home with a 89 - birdiing the last to break 90.
Cant explain why i went from hitting it solidly to not being able to predict where it will go - felt no nerves no beer at lunch no change in condition no injury!! and the most baffling thing was.... i played in a medal a couple of days later at my home course and shot 3 under.....
To this day i would love to know what happened in that 2 hour window to turn my game that badly!!!
