Looks like there are two and my question is a bit stupid. The person I'm thinking of actually fought your answer Chris.

John Murray's next opponent is #2 in his division in Spain which really brings it home how horrible the matchup is. Not really a boxing nation.

I think you're thinking of Baby Arizmendi, Jimmy, and it's a very good shout - but not quite what I'm after.

We've had a Battling Levinsky, a Battling Torres...Can anyone else think of any other 'Battlers' for the answer?...

The only two battlers which come to mind are Siki and Nelson but am fairly sure neither of those help us greatly

Re: Pass the Parcel Quiz.
Well we've confirmed he's a 'battling' so to speak. A clue / reminder; the second half of his ring name is actually very un-Mexican sounding.

Strictly speaking not considered a fully fledged champion either
Ok, which boxer officiated a world title fight before he had fought one himself?

Re: Pass the Parcel Quiz.
Shaw is a legitimate world champion as far as I'm concerned. The NBA may not have been recognizing the Light-Welterweight division, but the NYSAC gave it the nod and I don't see anyone refusing to acknowledge Ross or Canzoneri's reigns at 140 lb immediately after. Anyway, that's my take on it.
As for your question, I believe the answer is...Ah who am I kidding, haven't got a clue on that one.

Cheers, Ghosty.
At Jim Jeffries' training camp for the Johnson fight in 1910 several fighters, current and retired, gathered to wish him well. One such was thrown out of Jeffries' camp. Who was it, and why was he ejected ?

Is this the old tale about Ketchel Windy, read a story he saw Jeff was in poor shape and so concerned was he Jeff would be knocked out he concocted a plan to Ko Jeff himself to save him the embarrasment. If not is an amusing story all the same.

Given the circumstances, sam, that's a great guess, but incorrect, I'm afraid.

Bang on with Ketchel, jeff.
Ketchel wasn't interested in the race thing, and was a drinking buddy of Johnson, even though he admired Jeffries as a fighter. The story I read reported that Jeffries had him thrown out because he suspected that Stan was spying for Johnson.
Well done, mate, and over to you.

Re: Pass the Parcel Quiz.
The answer I was looking for was the one provided by Sam, Chris yours may well be right I was thinking of Lamotta and Graziano, was going to say they were middelweights but thought it might be too easy, didn't think at the time this would open it up to other fighters.

In a desperate attempt at diplomacy, Ghosty, I'd say that you were both almost right, but jeff edges it by being a bit quicker. ( And that's as close to grovelling as you're going to get. )

None, but I could be thinking of Roy Jones who beat no lineal champions.
