That's tough Jimmy can't think of too many guys who fought across such a wide variety of classes, would Langford be one of them by any chance?

Ketchel and Langford fought Chris. Will go with Billy Stift, if only because I'm reading the Marvin Hart bio at the minute and he seems to have fought everyone and his dog.

Spot on Jeff well done mate the guy that Johnson said "He aint human" and the guy Fleischer said done a somersault when Johnson hit him so hard. Langford and Grim both fought Gans, Walcott, Kid, O'Brien and Johnson.
Hats off great answer.

First fighter to win via disqualification for world honours I believe Jeff.

You're on fire today Jimmy may have to ask you some modern ones, suspect I could fox you with what is De La Hoya's nickname since he fought in colour

Which 1960s world title bout was the first to have a closed-circuit screening in Britain?

Only guy I can think who challenged in the 60's was Dave Charnley, so will say him against Joe Brown

I read this was Joe Louis-Lee Savold but that was early 50s not 60s.
EDIT: Missed the 'in Britain' part.

Right then, one more clue and I'd expect someone to gobble this one up. The fight was for the Light-Heavyweight title.

That's the one, Ghosty. Downes versus Pastrano in 1964, the first world title fight to be shown on a closed-circuit in Britain, at the Phoenix Theatre in London.

Just read about this fight yesterday in the Hugh McIlvanney book, bit of a coincidence. Don't remember him mentioning it though.88Chris05 wrote:That's the one, Ghosty. What was unusual about the way Andrew "Six-Heads" Lewis lost his Guyanese National Light-Middleweight title fight against Denny Dalton?

Re: Pass the Parcel Quiz.
Got it in one Chris, I thought that one might have lasted a bit longer.
As the man himself put it afterwards, "If I had stayed longer in the ring I would have messed my skin. I just wanted to get out and go to the toilet."
Brings a whole new meaning to 'quitting on your stool'.

Ha ha, I like that one, Union! A while back on the old 606 I did an article on unusual fight endings you see, pretty sure I included that one.
Which notable all-time first was achieved by a boxer in 1988, only to then be replicated by one of his great rivals just three days later?

This would be Hearns taking the supermiddle title and then Leonard taking the lightheavy title from LaLonde, each becoming a five or six weight, ( can't remember which - getting old, ) champion wouldn't it, Chris ?

Lovely stuff, Windy, you're bang on with that one. Hearns won the WBO Super-Middleweight title on November 4th that year, making it titles in five weight classes, before Leonard took both the WBC Super-Middleweight and Light-Heavyweight titles from LaLonde on November 7th to make it, albeit very controversially, titles in five weights, too.
Great shout, over to you.

He might have been, Rodders, but I'm afraid the question concerns a couple of ' Hound Dogs ' who have nothing to do with Elvis, as far as I know.

Then going home to find Megan Fox cooking a shepherds pie for your tea only wearing her briefs ! Sounds like a decent day mate.
Unfortunately I don't think my answer is correct Jeff.

I've looked up the Sportatarium and it seems to have been primarily a wrestling venue, which made me think it might have been where Ali fought that wrestler, but then that wasn't in 1955 was it...

I believe he started out on guitar, Union, but then his parents bought him a second hand ' beforehand ' which he played on the mellower ballads. He tried to introduce it into the Vegas shows, but guitarist James Burton complained that the beforehand, like the bagpipe, had something of that double reed nasal tone and didn't go well with ' Are You Lonesome Tonight ? ' or ' Always On My Mind. '
I believe that Jimmy Page is the only high profile rocker who still plays the beforehand at his gigs.
