Match Scores In Titles
First topic message reminder :
Just wanted to make a request regarding titles.
I've been trying to watch most of the games in the WC, but due to the number of matches and times, I have to spread them throughout the week and it takes a few days to catch up. Obviously I avoid reading posts with the match in the title to keep the game a bit of a mystery, but when the score is put in the title it becomes impossible to keep it a surprise without avoiding the board altogether, and invariably I'd like to log on to see or make comments on another game in the interim.
So, please, where possible, could we keep the scorelines to the main body of the text?

Those who have been on this thread and post scores in titles will be doing it out of spite.Cymroglan wrote:Being asked is one thing being threatened with a ban if you don't comply is another.
That's the issue. If you are not going to post scores in titles then you have nothing to worry about and are getting worked up over nothing.

I had it once in my life and really enjoyed it, now i am not sure if it is part of welsh quisine but here's hoping.
On a slight tangent, my girlfriend (who's French) sent me this link on FB this afternoon...

Stag if you don't want the score there thats your choice and I will not question your reason for it.
But when I use my phone to quickly scan the site having the score up there can be useful.
People have always put the scores up so why should things change during the world cup.

A common misconception. Root vegetables are a staple of the Munstermans diet but it is spuds rather than turnips that make our bellies rumble.

Re: Match Scores In Titles
If you already know the score you won't need to see it in the thread title.
If you don't know the score but want to know it there are plenty of other places to look.
If you don't know the score and don't want to know it then it not being in the title of a thread (and visible while scanning the forum) will be helpful.
Don't forget, having a few house rules that don't actually affect people's viewing pleasure and actually enhances that of others is NOT how Hitler got started

Y,I.Man it has nothing to do with spite it's just how we normally do things in rugby forums.
I just see it being OTT to change the rules just because somebody has decided to come online before they have watched the game.
Life does not stop still while we wait for them to press OK on their Sky +

Its definitely a UK thing as much as Id like to claim it for the Welsh (along with any Lions victories, ever).
But its part of our good ol' roast dinner! Yorkshire puds are definitely a necessity.

Use the toolbar above where you type your reply. There is one that looks like a chain link.
It gives you two boxes - one where you put the full link and one where you put the text you want to appear

Re: Match Scores In Titles
There are various family & life commitments for members on here such that they are unable to rise or stay up for the dead of the night matches, but will be able to watch the later morning matches and wish to contribute to live discussion threads. If people have to avoid the site completely until they've caught up with the day's matches, there will be more instances like there were this weekend, where posters are asking why are there none of X nation's supporters on here discussing this game.
Bit of a no brainer for me, such an easy, considerate, temporary request will result in a richer site experience for many.

John but if you did come on the site and suddenly come across the score would you sit there wondering how the hell did that happen.
If you really want to make sure you don't accidentally find out the result then the best bet is to avoid ruby forums sport pages etc bit of a no brainer really.

Interestingly Cymro for all your bravado about this you've never actually posted an article with the scores in the headline why will it be a problem.
There's only one poster I know who regularly posts the scores in the headlines and I've no doubt he does it meaning to be helpful rather than spiteful.

Re: Match Scores In Titles
Stag this is all about all of us expected to abide to a new rule just because somebody requested the scores not to be in the title.
Now if I did include the score then it's a bit OTT that I would receive a ban for it,
There is no problem and I also think there is no problem in posting the score in the article.
As I stated before you are entitled to your opinion and I wont wont question your opinion.
You after a moderators job you seem to be pushing yourself forward to be one.

Re: Match Scores In Titles
I wouldn't be surprised, no, and neither by the sounds of it would the OP, which is why they made the polite suggestion that we change the way things have been thus far. Seems pretty sensible and considerate with almost no impact on other people's enjoyment of the board, and resulting in more people able to join live match debates. I can't see a downside.
I've recorded early morning matches to watch later in the day that it wasn't life or death I didn't know the score of, but that I was hoping I wouldn't find out about as it's not the sort of match that crops up in most of the discussions taking place, and the only give away has been a topic title. The Ita v Rus match this morning being a case in point. It would certainly make the viewing more enjoyable to not know the score, and I don't see how that score not being in the title of the topic has a negative impact on people using the board.
A change for the better I say.

Re: Match Scores In Titles
Fair point John but you are just as likely to find out the score by going into any of the articles.
People often post results of matches in other groups when they are talking about something completely different.
All I'm saying is and I don't mean to be nasty if somebody does not want to know the score then avoiding rugby forums altogether is far more sensible.

Re: Match Scores In Titles
For a big match concerning one of the top nations, yes, that is almost certainly the case, and in those situations I wouldn't chance coming on the site if I didn't want to know the score. However, a fair number of games won't be of that ilk*, and due to broadcasting demands of the NH it's mostly this sort that are the early morning ones or midweek ones that are causing the issue with people not having watched them live.
*I haven't seen the Ita v Rus match discussed anywere, just seen the score in a title, and I didn't see the Fra v Can score mentioned on posts the other day, its scoreline wasn't in a title either, so I got to watch the match without knowing the score beforehand. I'd guessed the end result obviously, but it made watching the unfolding more enjoyable not knowing what to expect.
