Martin Crowe on track for club cricket return aged 49
From here, former NZ cricket great (and current SkySports NZ executive) Martin "Russell's Cousin" Crowe is coming out of club cricket retirement aged 49 in an attempt to make the Auckland 1st class side and cross off a couple of milestones -retirement due to chronic knee problems meant he finished on 247 1st class games and 19,608 runs.
Good on him if he manages it, but how gutted would you feel as a player if you missed out on a 1st class spot to someone twice your age ...
I faced a 49-year-old Richard Hadlee in a lower grade Christchurch club game in 2000, he was still deadly accurate, albeit mostly at 110-115km/h rather than 130km/h, but he could still bowl a pretty quick bouncer if he wanted to.

i actually find it quite selfish..
if he was still playing and he hadnt retired then yh good on him, but he is probably gonna come back and take a youngester's place or someone that has done well, just to complete them milestones and then retire again.

Thing is he won't be picked if he's not good enough, so it'll probably be good as there will be more competition for places and also I would have thought young batsmen could learn a lot from a player like Crowe.

I wouldn't say it's selfish. If he's deserving of a game he should play if not then he shouldn't. I wonder if Crow will got to 20,000 then retire or continue.
