Greatest Cruiserweight Ever

In WWE's recently added 'Where Are They Now?' with Billy Kidman, it mentioned many great Cruiserweights of the past such as Eddie Guerrero, Juventud Guerrera, Rey Mysterio etc. This had me thinking, who is the greatest Cruiserweight to enter the ring?

Was it due to their high flying ability like Kidman, Guerrero etc or was it because of their excellent wrestling ability like Malenko, Daniel Bryan? But who was the best?


Also, the greatest ever Cruiserweight match?

And my favourite match would be Rey Mysterio vs Psicosis in ECW

I don't think you can really look past malenko could make batista look a great wrestler.

Jushin Liger vs Ultimo Dragon was a excellent match

Everyone will say Mysterio because he's been pushed more than any other cruiserweight. In my opinion, I'd say the greatest is Malenko or Eddie Guerrero.

Got to be Dean Malenko...in a league of his own

From a purely impartial standpoint it has to be Rey Mysterio, no man of his size has ever been as sucessful, he has worldwide appeal and is certanially the most sucessful luchador outside of Mexico, he was truly awe inspiring worker on his day and even as age and injuries have forced him to tone down his ring style he is still a very good worker (even if he isn't given enough credit for it at times). Also lets not forget he held the biggest prize in wrestling, if only for a night.

In personal terms Eddy Guerrero is in my top 10 all rounders of all time and at this moment in time I rate Dragon Gate's PAC very highly as he is beginning to develop a slightly more rounded psychological game to go with his magical ariels.

A wide range of answers so far guys, it does seem that the high fliers have taken the fancy of more people rather than the technical masters in Malenko and co.

I personally prefer the Malenko type wrestler so I would have him as my favourite Cruiserweight of all time. He never had a poor match and like said above he'd make the most average of wrestlers look world class.

Out of the current class, I can't say there are an awful lot that stand out with the WWE practically killing any Cruiserweight that does make it into their ranks. But from the guys that are currently in the indies, I'd go for Davey Richards everytime. How I would loved to have seen a Richards v Malenko match!

One that hasn't been mentioned and he's not obviously as small as the likes of Rey but was a multi time Cruiser champ in WCW... Chris Jericho.

I always love Ultimo Dragon's work. His matches with Jericho in Japan are really what opened my eyes to Jericho back in the day. Then again, he had great matches with Jushin Liger too. I think any of those 3 should be contenders.

As for most successful, that has to be Jericho, or Mysterio based on how current he is.

Others have been right though, Dean Malenko could have a 5 star match with a cucumber.
