Sean O'BRIEN almost a Haskell
First topic message reminder :
Nearly choked with laughter this morning when Sean Fitzpatrick said that SOB was almost like Haskell . First we have Horan and his rubbish column and now this. Great players both of them but bit of a disconnect with the brain. Although considering they are antipodean sportsmen maybe no connection at all

Re: Sean O'BRIEN almost a Haskell
The title of this thread should be 'Storm in a Teacup.' It's clear to anyone with any sense that what Sean Fitzpatrick meant to say was that Sean O'Brien is similar to James Haskell in the way he plays and that they offer something similar to their respective national teams in terms of their dynamism. He wasn't saying O'Brien's a lesser player; he wasn't even saying that Haskell's a better player.
The nerve of the man, getting his words a bit mixed up live on TV!

Yeah but the two of them shouldn't really be mentioned in the same sentence never mind walk the same turf. In top trumps OBrien would win on all fronts.

That's a pity they probably should. I know a lot of people don't like the UTV/ITV crowd for the WC but I dint mind them except for Craig Doyle the token Irish presenter. God he is a Douche.

Not sure about Fitzpatrick mind you. Though he has sent his daughter to Dublin to universary so he gets some points for that. I do like Dallaglio though. He knows what he is on about.

There was a comment from Haskell about McCaw eating a dry Weetabix. Sorry, rhis thread was taking itself too seriously.
We was just having a laff.

Every other question from Doyle is :"Lawerance, you've won a world cup, whats your take on this?"

Ah right. Didn't hear that quote. Haskell is good value for a bit of chat alright but can't warn to him somehow.

Haskell is an avid collector of lace doilies and adopts stray kittens in his spare time. What a nice fella...

Aye, that was O'Brien. I like that. I'd much rather that than 'if there aren't holes I'll just have to run sideways and lose possession.' It's about Confidence man!
Haskell has come on a lot hasn't he? Good player now.

I don't see what's wrong with O'Brien saying that? Fantastic attitude to have, I want to see him punching holes and bringing the team forward! Self belief in sport I think is crucial.

Re: Sean O'BRIEN almost a Haskell
It's just as well an English player didn't say that. Then it would have been overbearing arroganceRory_Gallagher wrote:Notch wrote:Hound_of_Harrow wrote:I like watching both players; they bring slightly different games to their respective national sides. Seriously though, I agree. I want my players to have exactly that attitude.

Phff. O'Brien should have been compared to Powell not Haskell. Remember his debut against South Africa for Wales? Lauded as the next ....... by a lot of Welsh fans. Next season he was Poopie

Re: Sean O'BRIEN almost a Haskell
Well a lot of people would accuse Haskell of extreme arrogance (The Brand). I don't know why but I have to say I like him. I'm sure he motivates the team off and on the pitch with his attitude, even if he is over the top with that website of his and stuff.
I do think Sean O'Brien is a totally different player though so I don't understand the comparison, but I rate Haskell (not just as highly as O'Brien :P)

It seems a lot of people don't like the off field stuff that comes with James Haskell and it seems to affect their judgement on his ability on the rugby pitch. It may surprise you that he has quite a skill set.

For me this is the Haskell problem...he just seems like a bit of a toul. There is no doubt of his skill but the very best do their talking on the pitch and stay low key off it...maybe Dayglo had just a bit too much with the development of his ego as much as his rugby
