I'd say at his peak he was streets better than Ojha, whom somehow will end up playing more Tests than Kartik. I think Kartik must have a personality that rubs people up the wrong way, as for years he was proclaimed by many Indians to be the next BS Bedi.guildfordbat wrote:Meanwhile, one of county cricket's worst kept secrets is out with Surrey's signing of Murali Kartik confirmed today.
Not overly thrilled - he was pretty useful at his peak but I fear his best days are behind him. Hope I'm wrong - guess we'll see soon enough ....

Demon - I'm not convinced Kartik was ever better - let alone streets better - than the Dodger was in the last month of last season.
In his 4 matches during that time for Surrey, the Dodger took 24 wickets at under 13 each.
Meanwhile, Kartik last season took just 2 more wickets in his 8 matches for Somerset at over 34 each.
You may be right about Kartik's personality but my main worry now relates to his potential effectiveness ....

On those figures is going to be pretty impossible to replace Ojha/Dodger. But I think someone like Adams can get the best out of Kartik, as he seems like the kind of guy who needs a strong hand to keep his ego in check, and there aren't too many better than Adamsguildfordbat wrote:Demon Racer wrote:

Demon - interesting point about the future working relationship between Adams and Kartik. Adams certainly inherited a few egos when he joined Surrey. His main success (if that's the right word) with those egos was moving them out of the Club. It may be more of a challenge for him to keep an ego in check that he has signed ....

Hopefully Adams can sort out Kartik, as he's the kind of artist I enjoy watching bowl.guildfordbat wrote:Demon Racer wrote:

Knew it, haha. Pure luck that one of my mates at Nottingham Uni was touring Trent Bridge and bumped into him with Mick Newell and text me straight away knowing I'm a huge fan! Or either I am secretly James Taylor... Who knows.
Guildford, I reckon Karthik is on the slide slightly. He wasn't effective last year as he had been in previous years for Somerset and Middlesex. He bowled particularly badly against your boys in the CB40 final, so I don't know what they've seen in him!

surrey could probably do with another quick as well
tremeltt and dernbach will be away on international duty quite a bit, and meaker will be with the lions.

Don't reckon we do need another quick as I can't see Tremlett playing ODIs or Dernbach/Meaker playing Tests. Therefore, we should have at least one of the three at all times (and sometimes all of them) as well as Linley, Lewis and the young guys Jordan and Dunn.

JBD - very much agree with that - and you could even add into the mix Edwards and Jewell, tho I suspect neither will get much of a look in unless there are a lot of injuries and England call ups.jbd349 wrote:cricketfan90 wrote:surrey could probably do with another quick as well

Re: County Ins and outs
I was a bit puzzled by signing of Lewis - very good bowler, just a bit past his peak. Thinking it's maybe with a view to coaching + helping along the development of Meaker and Dernbach who can both be fairly erratic at times.....
"Clive" Dunn has signed for Surrey until end 2013 and Zafar Ansari until end 2014. Both are good prospects. Ansari showed a cool head in limited overs last season ....

briggs is a good t20 bowler, but still not convinced by him in the longer form..
wood needed some pace, and dimi gets injured every 5 miniutes.

Re: County Ins and outs
Dimi played most games in the second half of the season.
We have Dawson who can bowl and Ervine.
Wood is becoming a bit of an all rounder and chipped in with quite a few runs down the order. We need a couple of new players still. Lost Corky, Lumb and pothas and S.Jones
Team will be:
Adams
Dawson
Carberry
Vince
Ervine
Mascheranhas
Bates
Wood
Briggs
Balcombe

Good signing for both parties I would say, he has the potential to be a good county cricket all rounder and at Kent will get a lot more playing time.

"Their recent success is well deserved, I look forward to working with them in 2012," he said.
Before signing for Surrey, Pietersen spent six seasons at Hampshire where he played two Twenty20 games, seven County Championship matches and 17 one-dayers.
The Natal-born batsman, who has averaged 50.48 in his 133 Test innings, featured in four Surrey games last season, including two T20 games.
"Surrey is a fantastic club," he added. "I have been really impressed with the environment and work ethic in place."

I imagine he will again be a fairly marginal figure at the Oval in the upcoming season if we are looking at him playing a tiny number of games.
