Gareth Williams Retires Empty Gareth Williams Retires

Post by wales606 Fri Sep 30, 2011 11:52 pm

http://www.rugbynetwork.net/main/s170/st171755.htm

It looks as if Gareth Williams will retire from rugby after a neck injury in the preseason match against Bath.

Best of luck to him in the future - he has been with the Blues since 2003 and has constanly fought for his place with TRThomas, his technical ability earned him 9 caps between 2003 and 2010.

With injuries to THThoms and K.Dacey the Blues have only 1 hooker available for their Pro12 game against Glasgow on Saturday.

All the best to him, a great servent to rugby for the Blues for sure. I hate seeing players having to retire through injury.

That's a shame. I wish him the very best with whatever he decides to do next.

Gareth was briefly interviewed at the Blues game yesterday, and he said he was told by doctors not to carry on. He didn't say what he was going on to do but said he'd welcome a coaching job with the Blues.

ah bless him. It must be such a shock to just one day be told you can't play anymore. Must be a very difficult time for him.

He seemed all right although I thought Dot was a bit insensitive when she was interviewing him, but those interviews always come across as a bit embarrassing anyway.

It was a shame when I read about it, I'm just hoping, from the way the article is worded, that it's more a case of Gareth doesn't want to risk being seriously injured by carrying on playing, rather than he is very seriously injured now and will have complications later.
Hope he goes on to something good, maybe coaching. Rhys Williams has just been hired by GE Avionics to quite a high up position, so together with his TV stuff he'll be doing very well for himself...

Gareth Williams, Lee Mears and Andy Titterall have always been an inspiration to me as a 5ft 8 hooker...they show that it aint the size of the boat but the motion of the ocean thats the important thing and as long as you work your socks off getting around the park and being technically better than the bigger lads then you can still make it to the top. Good luck in your retirement buddy.

Pacey guy for a hooker. Always liked him. Mr Commitment fair play. One of those unsung heroes.
