Time to make use of the power of the forum
First topic message reminder :
OK guys.
Now that we're starting to migrate en masse we can start making use of some of the additional functionality of this place.
I've noticed that there is a usergroups section at the top. Without looking into it too deeply I can see that there is a group Moderators. I'd like a golfers group that we all join. We can use that to easily identify the golf posting users who are online... and also to send out group mailshots about anything we want to look into (get togethers, open events, anything really)
All in favour say aye and moderators please get onto group creation.
:bitchslap: (thats motivation for the mods by the way!)

Re: Time to make use of the power of the forum
He seems relucatant to move at the moment. Not sure why.
BTW I'm planning on keeping his latest article always as a "sticky" - then when a new one comes out, unstick the previous one and pin the new one so he's always at the top
Same could be done with the Fantasy Gold threads (for example) - people will have to give me some ideas what we want as "sticky" - it gets untidy if you have TOO many

Ah.. KB... we're golfers. We'll never have everything sorted! We'll be coming up with ideas and thoughts for months to come.

Like both of them as stickies but agree that they can get messy.
I believe that it was Mac that suggested sub forums so would like his view point on them as I wouldn't want the idea scrapped just because of my opinion. Maybe for the technically minded of you a topic with a vote on sub forums where it can be debated might be an idea?
Just need to be careful with too much democracy - a camel being a horse designed by a committee and all that!!!

Re: Time to make use of the power of the forum
Sub Forums will be
General Chit Chat
Equipment / For Sale
Meetings
If you want these changed it can be done. Davie will move threads and moderate as he needs to once this is done.

One question about this. Will ALL threads have to be in a sub forum or will the top level golf container also have threads? I'd prefer to have general threads stay at the top level and only have specifics moved to sub forums. I'll do whatever the concensus is though

OK well I'm open to suggestions from others too. (polite ones only please and nothing anatomically impossible)

Re: Time to make use of the power of the forum
If you're going to have sub-folders then you should also have a sticky moderation/comments thread for you to have a single point of contact. Much as this has been used for suggestions.
That should stay on the top level with the rest of the stickies that are most appropriate
From there I don't see a need to have a general chitchat subfolder.
So
Golf
------------------------Sticky Threads
----------------------------Sub-Folder: Meets
----------------------------Sub-Folder: Sales
------------------------General Threads
If that makes sense presented like that.

Re: Time to make use of the power of the forum
Makes perfect sense to me
The two new sub forums have been created but I don't see any posts yet that need to me moved (unless the one about a 606v2 society day should be moved to "meets"

Sounds like a meets thing to me.
Make it a sticky thread within that sub-folder and have a count of threads within the article similar to the main page.
Then it's easy to see what's going on in the underlying forums.

Re: Time to make use of the power of the forum
We are now 100 posts more than the next largest forum.
Golf should clearly be the primary focus on this site.

Not sure if this is the thread it was mentioned on... but for the notification emails on a specific thread.... If you've not opted out generally you can turn off the responses for each thread within the notification email.
There is a link in there that prevents notification and should allow you to close off the last of those annoying messages.
