Khan's unique situation??? Empty Khan's unique situation???

Post by alanqlm Fri 21 Oct 2011, 1:40 pm

Ok we all know that every opponent Khan fights seems to be 100% confident they would win the rematch and has more people asking for a return that anybody I can think of.. but I want to focus on 1 of them for this topic

Bredis Prescott.... I've been wrecking my brain for a couple of days now trying to think of a similar situation, where the clear cut winner of a fight has been the one so vocal about wanting a rematch. The norm is for a fighter beaten in the 1st bout to be chasing the other one, but this seems like a fairly unique situation were the victor is the one desperate for a second shot.

Now please don't turn this into another 'Khans a ducker' or 'Prescott doesnt deserve another shot' type convo. What Im hoping for is some of the posters on here with a far superior knowledge to myself to see if they can come up with other similar scenarios.

Prescott is a limited fighter, as Paul mcCloskey showed (even though I think Prescott won) and has probably gone backwards since beating khan, whereas khan has catapulted himself forwards.

Presoctt wants the fight for money, IMO Khan would be wise to prescotts crude slugging and wins easily in a rematch.

Khan doesn't need teh fight because he is at least a level up, and there will be the nagging thought in his mind, what if I get tagged.

Money, and nothing else, is the reason behind it.

I think the OP actually wanted further examples of the unusual scenario where the winner of a fight was more vocal for a rematch than the loser....for my part I don't know of any!

Yeah, I think you're right. I'm not too sure I can think of any.

Yes yes - but the question was - when else has the winner chased the rematch.

Frazier chased Ali for Manila - after beating Ali in the fight of the century. However - circumstances were somewhat different there - its not the greatest parallel.

I suppose Marquez-Vasquez was almost that kind of scenarion, except it was both of them who wanted the rematches. All three of them. Mentaloids.

Bowe v Holyfield is one. Holyfield wanted the rematch aswell of course but Bowe was very keen on it.

Tyson v Holyfield II is arguably another where Holyfield really wanted a lucrative rematch

Bowe was too afraid to face Lewis that is why he wanted to fight Holyfield instead lets not forget that Lewis destroyed Bowe in the amateurs

Excellent as ever Manos - Tyson-Holyfield II is bang on. Holyfield really believed (and believes to this day) that he always had the whipping of Tyson - and wanted to whip him again, without any questions left unanswered.

Also I think Margarito is much more keen to fight Cotto a second time than Cotto is to fight him.

It is the losing fighter who has the contractual right to ask for a rematch.

Prescott needed to get himself in a ranking position to fight Khan again.

He hasn't done anything to suggest he will get near that kind of form.
