The Perpetual Horse Racing Quiz.
First topic message reminder :
Ok, here's my idea for a quiz.
I'd planned on posting about 12 questions, and getting you to pm me the answers.
But I've had what I think is a better idea
I thought we could have an on going quiz, it will go like this.....someone posts a question ( it can be about anything related to racing).
The person who answers correctly gets to ask the next question......if you are certain you have the correct answer then go ahead and ask a question......if your not sure just wait until someone confirms it.
In that way the thread can run for as long as people are interested in it.
I'm rather pleased with that idea
Of course, it could all go horribly wrong...........but we'll give it a go.
Here's the first question:
In the 1998 Cheltenham Gold Cup, See More Business was carried out by Cyborgo (Paul Nicholls was not a happy bunny!).
Can you name the other horse that was carried out in that incident?
I'm off now .....I've had a busy day......night night,
Solerina.

No not Perth Sol, I'll give you's a wee clue -
On July 18, 1947 it became the first course in Britain to stage an evening fixture while on May 8, 1971 the racecourse became the first to hold a morning meeting.

Re: The Perpetual Horse Racing Quiz.
Topical one:
There have been several winners of the Scottish Grand National that have also won its English counterpart at Aintree.
But what is the name of the only horse that won both races in the same year ?

Re: The Perpetual Horse Racing Quiz.
OK we will stick with the theme of The Scottish Grand National - A P McCoy has only ridden the winner of the race once, aboard Belmont King in 1997, who was the trainer?

Re: The Perpetual Horse Racing Quiz.
OK a sort of topical one for today - Frankel is the horse of the weekend so a wee question about his daddy the great Galileo.
Galileo raced 8 times in his career, on 7 of these races his partner in the saddle was Michael Kinane, who was his jockey on his only other race?

I feel I should know this.......I loved Galileo!
Nearly had the shock of my life when after he retired he turned up in a hurdle race!
Except it wsn't him lol.....it was another horse, called Galileo, from Poland!
I think the other Galiieo was trained by Tom George.......I'm going to go and check that out,

Yes....the other Galileo was from Poland and trained by Tom George.
I also inadvertantly saw the answer to Swansea's question .....well I'd never have known that......I was thinking it was Jamie Spencer

Re: The Perpetual Horse Racing Quiz.
ok,heres a pretty topical one.
The 84 Whitbread produced one of the best races seen i modern day NH racing, arguably the most iconic finish to any race in the past 30 years. Can you name the horses, jockeys and trainers of the three photo finish protagonists?

Nut, remember this race well, one of the greatest finishes ever, the Queen Mothers Special Cargo won it in a photo from Lettoch with Diamond Edge back in 3rd.
I know Kevin Mooney was on Cargo and Fulke Walwyn trained both him & Diamond Edge. Lettoch was a Dickinson horse ridden by Bob Earnshaw but I dont know who rode Diamond Edge

Re: The Perpetual Horse Racing Quiz.
Swans...
It certainly was. Great Nephew was a pretty good miler, won 2 GR1's in France, but couldn't quite do the business here. 2nd in 2000 Guineas, Lockinge & the Eclipse.
Before Grundy's win in the Derby, I remember there was much fevered discussion that he wouldn't stay the distance because Great Nephew was a miler. I am a great believer in the influence of the dam when considering stamina and Grundy's dam - Word from Lundy had won at 12f and her sire had also won Gr1 over 12f. On her dam's side appears the great Pharos - Nearco line and we all know where that stands in the pantheon of all time great sires.
In many ways this is similar to Sea the Stars whose sire, Cape Cross, was a top notch miler. But STS's dam was Urban Sea a brilliant 12f Gr1 winner, and also dam of Galileo. So, to my mind I had no doubts at all that STS would stay 12f.
