India vs England - 4th ODI
First topic message reminder :
After the dismay of watching the most arrogant team in world rugby win, it is on to the cricket. Of course the series is already dead with India 3-0 but both teams are trying new faces.
Meaker and Borthwick come in for England, with Swann and Jade "the death" Dernbach missing out. And for India Aaron in for Yadav. At least CF will be pleased, his two favourite players in.
Eng won the toss and batted first and they are 61-2 off 10. Cook went first, then Kies went for 29 after getting another start.

And one of them took forever to do so

1 or 2 more wickets and India may struggle to get home

Just like we have all tour!
Re: India vs England - 4th ODI
The balance still in England's favor. Raina, in these situations, isn't quite a safe bet. Would have been better if Dhoni had come in. But as he stressed often in the past, the team does need a proven finisher to negotiate the tough situations to close out a match, and not many among the youngsters have quite done that. Missing Yuvraj big time.

Re: India vs England - 4th ODI
England have given away far too many runs in the last 5 overs that they have lost whatever ground that Finn and Meaker had created for them. Kohli, and particularly Raina, need to bat with sense here. A couple of wickets still can open up this one, after their poor effort in the last match, don't think they would want it to happen again.

Kohli and Raina, what a pair, it is proving new Ganguly and Dravid, with a bit more aggression.

Guys I was critisized for saying "Dhoni was robbed by Mr Duckworth and Lewis" in 5 match ODI series here, you can see why I was right.

Finn has badmouthed Raina as he dismised him on 80, just shows this team is full of freaks, have not got sportsmanship or sports spirit.

Dhoni has complained to Roshan Mahanama, from Cmntry box, Gavaskar, says " Roshan is too mild mannered, he would not do a thing"

Re: India vs England - 4th ODI
Right move from Cook, no point keeping Finn for the end overs, as the end is very near. He seems to be their only hope to create an unlikely upset from here. And yes, he has struck!!!!.
What is wrong with Raina though? He should learn to take his responsibilities more seriously. Incredibly stupid from him, slogging England's best bowler of the day, when 18 overs are still remaining to get 50 odd runs?

Raina is another Sehvag, never seems bothered of a milestone ahead.

If Raina was downright reckless and stupid, Kohli is now going to the other extreme. Almost played out a maiden during the batting powerplay. Should learn to find a balance.

Well played India. I was sure that they would knock off these runs in under 40 overs and theyare well on par to do that. I did think that they would only lose 1 or 2 wickets though

Re: India vs England - 4th ODI
Firstly, its not a question of a milestone. Its a question of closing out a game. By playing that absolutely terrible shot, Raina gave England a sniff of a chance. Another wicket there, could have created some trouble for India.activereactive wrote:Raina is another Sehvag, never seems bothered of a milestone ahead.
2ndly, its criminal to compare Sehwag and Raina. Sehwag has a functional cricketing brain, all be it programmed more towards making use of every scoring opportunity.
Besides, Sehwag bats at the top, where his responsibility is to set the pace for the innings. Raaina bats at 5/6, and has to often bat the situations. OK he scored 80 today, but he has failed to ensure his responsibilities are fulfilled.
He is not doing it for the first time, when he was captaining the side in the West Indies, in almost all the 5 matches, he played some strange and stupid shots to get out.

Right, another thumping inflicted on England by India. Win by 6 wickets, with 59 balls remaining.

A month ago, England was demolishing India in England. Now, it's India doing the same at home. We are watching two teams that are difficult to beat on their home soil. Barring the last series in Australia, England hasn't done well outside England.

Re: India vs England - 4th ODI
Well played again India. Thought England has a sniff with the early wickets but it was a great partnership from Virat and Raina. Once again England didn't get the runs on the board and were made to pay. I would like to see England have a chase in the final game, as I think they are a better chasing side but it probably won't matter too much if India keep at this level.
The one green shoot to come from this tour though: Steven Finn. Immmense again today.

Finn was superb for England yet again, but beyond that, its all questions for England. May be they should bring in Ian Bell for Ravi Bopara or Johny Bairstow. Would like to see Bell in for Bopara.

Re: India vs England - 4th ODI
Is Buttler out there with the squad? I know he missed out on the ODI squad, but I thought I heard he had still gone out with them? If so, I wouldn't mind seeing him get a game in the 5th match. Possibly for Bairstow. Not convinced about Bell for Bopara, although the spin did the damage today so maybe Bell is needed. Swann should come back in, but it seems a bit harsh to drop Borthwick after one game mid tour. Apart from that, no changes.
King Finn.

Anyone like to tell me why Borthwick is playing instead of Briggs?

Jimbohammers, probably because he has a touch more batting ability than Briggs and if Briggs had played today it would have been two left arm spinners in the side so not much variation.

In an odd way, india are probably lucky that they have had so many injuries, because now, they have been able to give all these youngsters a go.

Re: India vs England - 4th ODI
We seem to be picking players because they will be good enough in the future but aren't ready now rather than picking the best possible squad we can. No way that Meaker, Bairstow and Borthwick are ready for international cricket - there are better alternatives out there - yet but the management clearly want to blood them, so to speak. As others have said the only positive of this pointless ODI tour is Steven Finn.

Impressed with Finn.
Active, I didn't realise they'd lose their #1 ODI status? How can the world champions lose their #1 ranking only a short while after proving they are undoubtedly the best team in the world in this format? That's ludicrous if it's correct.

Rankings come and go, we have seen it with WI and Oz, I am just curious to know if India can regain it.

Re: India vs England - 4th ODI
Bizarre, really, given that they proved beyond doubt that they're the best ODI side in the world.
Then again, it was in their own conditions, I guess, and they showed in England that they struggle when there is any hint of bounce and movement.

Re: India vs England - 4th ODI
Let's not overhype Aaron...I noticed the commentators were waxing lyrical about him.
He took the wickets of clueless tailenders. Let's face it, Meaker barely knows how to hold a bat, so yes someone bowling a shade under 90mph will look impressive against someone that plays and misses every ball.
He looked decent, but that's about it, for now.

Re: India vs England - 4th ODI
Varun Aaron looked good. He didn't set the world on fire, but there are good signs. The Indian media would do well not to overhype him and put on too much pressure. Wish he plays a bit alongside Zaheer. There is no better mentor available in India, as far as young pacers are concerned.
The most promissing thing about Varun's performance was the little it of movement he managed in his 2nd spel. This was a concern with him, he always had the pace, but not much else. Good to see him working on it, and good to see a bit of progress.
