First topic message reminder :

Ok here is the deal; You vote for the poster which you think should leave the 606v2 golf boards. The person with the most votes must exclusively post in the boxing and wrestling forums for a set period of time.

The amount of time spent banished to the wrestling and boxing forums will be determined by the voters. When voting also post a period of time, the average of these times will set the length of exile for the person with the most votes.

I have put myself and super up for vote, if anyone strongly feels there is a better candidate they will be added.

And as to Hobo's disingenuos questions, as Mav said I have made no secret of my dislike for banning "wums" just simply because of their talent for getting under peoples' skins. No one has yet managed to forumlate a rule which would outlaw wums which was to my liking. It would be easy to say "ban controversial posts" - but who decides what is controversial? As long as an article isn't overtly libelous or profane then it should be fair game. Start allowing posts to be deleted and people banned for controversial posts and it's the start of the slippery slope. To the first part of the question though, there are plenty of admins/mods who would like to see (people they think are) wums banned

Now thats the first thing i've believed from the admin team today. I would like to vouch for NBS her to the posters on the board that today have felt disgruntled, in as much to say NBS througout LJgate and case of the Keizo3 stayed neutral and only offered support to golfers on this forum. He is certainly doing the job with the golf board best interests at heart and has my full support.

So why do we need another mod?

The idea of having more than one is a good one, because it means you can bounce ideas off each other and come to the fairest decisions together as it maybe a case that one disagrees with whats posted while one supports it, so by having 3 mods you will get a vote of 2-1 eachtime meaning the fairest possible outcomes and not being jumped all over by the opinion of one man. Of course not that i'm saying NBS would do that he is very fair.

Also it means there will always be one person looking in on the forum incase of holidays, work commitments or dare I say spending time with ones family instead of focusing on golf (shudder at the thought) I'd like to think in our time NBS, Davie and Myself made a good team and helped everyone where we could enjoy there time on here as thats what it's about.

Cheers Mav. I'll let you in on a secret though....I'm sure I would have had more to say re. Keizo but I wasn't around much while the rudey poo was hitting the fan. I completely missed LJgate as well .

Another (or reinstated) golf Mod would be useful if only because I don't do enough Mod work(!), mainly as I'm not able to be around as much as I should.

I'd agree I'd feel better with 'one of our own' modding as they would know the protagonists pretty well (inc. when they were serious or letting their weird sense of humour overflow.....Mac) from here and 606.

Welcome NBS. I think theres a clue in there in your opening line as to that what moderation was like here in that we all tried to sing from the same song sheet for best results to the board. As said would re-join you based on the support of what we have received here today, but the horse has bolted as I cannot and will not apoligise for only saying what is true, so you will no doubt have new team mate to help out but agreed it needs be from this board and a regular that knows the personalities in order to be consistent

As the person who issued the 24 hr temp bans to the three members involved I would like to apologise. I admit I acted hastily, but in my defence, I acted in accordance with other bans dished out to members of other sections and in accordance with our site rules.

I certainly did not set out with ulterior motives, or in spite. I saw a situation and acted accordingly. As Admin we have to make certain calls, some think I made the right call, some think I made the wrong call. But at the end of the day, what has happened has happened and I hope we can all move on from this.

Again I would like to apologise for my actions (as I did via PM to Davie the day after the event), and now to the three members in question, not just because of what has transpired as a result of what happened, but for being too hasty in my actions. I have certainly learned from this and it wont happen again.

I know I criticised you and appreciate the response.
There are certain to be disagreements with any moderation and doubtless most of us would instigate them on something we feel strongly about, even of course when we're wrong.
The only way we can learn though, regardless of the rights or wrongs of the situation you had to deal with, is to not make the situation worse via Civil War, which is just about what has broken out here.
Anything that can be done to calm things down, both by Admin and here on Golf, will be most welcome.
Davie, Mav and NBS have been strong ambassadors for 606v2 and their work is greatly valued. Whatever happens from here, they have set a high standard for moderation on Golf and the bar is very high for any replacement to aspire to.
Hopefully in the fullness of time, normal service might be resumed with the that same high standard of consideration for the board contributors and the success of 606v2. Otherwise, we'll all be the losers.

Thankyou for taking the time to come on here and explain why you decided to inplememnt the bans and for also acknowledging that in hindsight you feel that it was the wrong decision.

In that one honest post alone you will have helped go a long way to restoring the faith the golf boards have in the admin team for which I would say we are all thankful for. A lot of the ill feeling could have been avoided had Hobo simply done as you have and have written his response in a way that did not antagonise and leave people feeling that they were being spoken down to. I would like to say this is not me having a pop at hobo, merely writing an honest response, and merely saying this is how the golf posters wish to be spoken to.

There is and has been no personal agenda in my comments just merely responses to what has been written before them. The support Davie and I have received from the posters for a) how we acted as mods and b) for standing up for what we feel is right has been superb. But we both understand that maybe on the back of yesterday that the admin teams may not wish to extend a hand and invite us back into the fold to help look after the golf boards and we are both big enough and probbably ugly enough as well to accept that fact.

But can we just ask that whoever you guys choose to appoint it is done with much thought into who has brought something to the board and would be repsected for their actions as a mod. I'm not syaing this to be awkward but to help in that as you can see people on here are friendly and enjoy debate but also will say if they feel aggrieved and want any future mods to be respected and find the jobs as easy to do as nbs,davie and I found it as a team. Also that maybe allow the golf mods to make the calls and if they get it wrong then the admins have a quiet word instead of overdoing it.

Agreed Mav - YI's post did a lot to clear things up and had that response been made instead of the other stuff that went on, then maybe none of this would have happened.

In fairness, the post I made yesterday explaining my side of things said pretty much the same as YI's post and I acknowledged his apology although for the sake of his privacy I left out his identity from my account, deciding it wasn't my place to identify who had doled out the bans.

YI's account of what happened pretty much agrees entirely with my own account - shame someone else decided that it was necessary to put "the other side" when my side and YI's seemed to tally pretty well.

To be honest I find the apology somewhat bizarre. I have admitted that the ban I received was deserved and to me it defined some boundaries for acceptable behaviour on the board. Whatever you feel about the comments made you should not insult another poster.
Now I have no idea what the boundaries might be or indeed who would impose them.

Diggers, it was because I didnt take into account previous misdemeanours, i.e. this was your first offence if you will.

With the other bans for people doing the same thing, they had history. I just saw the posts and was too hasty. In hindsight, a pm warning would of sufficed.

I think I've been reprimanded before for referring to someone as a Wind Up Merchant, apparently this is deemed more offensive than being called a fool, moron, idiot, halfwit and various other and often worse terms (that surely no one finds offensive) that are bandied about.

I'd be amazed if anyone has ever complained about being referred to as a WUM, it all seems very Guardianista, i.e. people getting offended on other peoples behalf, when there is also no offense taken.

I've followed this spat with a growing sense of horror at how something so relatively insignificant (in the greater scheme of things) can be blown up out of all proportion.

I read the Keizo thread with the attitude of "so he's crawled out of the woodwork again and made another ridiculous sweeping statement". I didn't see it was worthy of comment and so I didn't but it certainly prompted some interesting discussion. My attitude is that if I find a comment ridiculous or offensive, then I don't bother reading any more. Some threads have descended into the peurile, in my opinion, but you don't have to read them.

I think both Davie and Mav have done a great job (with NBS) and they should be reinstated as Mods. The decision should be down to YI Man as Founder and not Hobo (I also found some of his comments patronising in their tone). Mac and SR should also stay and I think we should invite LJ back as his comments never offended me.

I have enjoyed this forum for the most part but things are getting a little bit too heavy now and it's time to step back, take a deep breath and move on.

I agree LP, The whole thing has got out of hand, hence why I havn't got involved in the debate about censorship and modding.
I had no problem with my ban for my "naughty" behaviour as it transgressed the rules.

It occurs to me that there is more here than meets the eye. It seems there is an undercurrent of bitterness emerging, no doubt exacerbated by the masks we all wear, a condition of cyber chat. Unless everyone is willing to just move forward transparently without underlying motives, shall our paradise be lost forever?

lol - he has to take it on the chin and be a man, it was his challenge in the first place- he will be back soon enough.

I quite like a read of the boxing boards, keeps you up to date with whats going on, wouldnt want to get too involved with posting on it though but I dont think its that bad. Certainly a step up from the tennis conversations, but they all seem happy enough on there in their own way.

This feels a bit like letting your kitten go out by the road for the first time.

I've just had a look and Mac's actually had two very sensible responses. Perhaps I'll join the boxing board as well

I contribute on the boxing board. It has very many extremely knowledgable contributors.
If you visit, you might notice that I am the current Union Cane's Prediction League champion. Season 3 hasn't started yet, 1st round of fights are on 5 November, and new entrants are always welcome although they will have to start in the Championship.

Let's hope he doesn't start debating the ring design of dimensions of the 19th Century with 21st Century boxing rings.
