Steward is Gamboa's new trainer...
What are your thoughts on this development guys? Very interesting move.

Bad move. Steward won't need to tell him to 'let his punches go' so will be silent in his corner. Plus Steward has other commitments and specialises in fighters that work behind a jab.

Hm... Could be extremely good. Steward is one of the best around and I would trust him, he's usually best with guys that have a good jab and knows what way to manipulate fights to his advantage.
One question though, does Gamboa even speak English? Because if not surely that's a bit of a problem...

One thought I had was regarding Steward and Prince Naseem Hamed.
Steward, by trying to correct Hamed technically, arguably took away some of his greatest assets that had been coveted by Ingle. Is there a possibility this could become the case with Gamboa?

He'll probably never meet Steward and work with a Spanish speaking trainer at his gym.

So strange that was my first thought too!!!
Not sure as Gamboa isn't quite as unconventional as Naz.

While nobody can dispute Steward's glittering credentials, I'm not entirely sure this is a great move. Gamboa is a very different type of fighter to the ones which Steward tends to have success with, and is too much of an instinct fighter to be moulded in the same way that the likes of Wladimir have been. Gamboa's natural talent means that he'll be one seriously good fighter no matter who trains him, but it remains to be seen whether or not working with Steward will take him up a level.

Steward's stock seems to be falling, with Cotto and Dawson both dumping him before big fights. Maybe this is why he's gone for a guy as naturally talented as Gamboa, so he can look good with someone other than Wlad.

I think Dawson and him didn't see eye to eye to be honest, due to Dawsons seeming lack of effort.
Cotto and him couldn't be trained by him as number 1 man in Germany gets him.
Think it's harsh to say, "so he can look good." They guy has had a stellar career behind him from Thomas Hearns to Wladimir Klitschko, however I do wonder whether he will be able to get the best out Gamboa seeing as he's not a guy that just uses distance and has a good one two or near impossible to stop jab!
