How Should Trott Bat
Another amusing article from Zaltzman.

I enjoyed this paragraph.
The problem is that Trott has been surrounded by other batsmen whose strike rates have also been adequate but whose averages have been close to useless. Dropping Trott would be like firing your accountant after you spent your life savings on a giant inflatable Darrell Hair, left it tied up outside the Sri Lankan embassy, and found it repeatedly punctured the following morning. The accountant is not to blame.

Re: How Should Trott Bat
Ha, quality paragraph that.
Trott's batting has been just fine, his strike rate is no concern for a man that is there to bat through the innings. It'd be nice if he had some help, though!

Re: How Should Trott Bat
IMO Trott needs to open in ODI cricket otherwise I do not see the point of having him in the side
Re: How Should Trott Bat
He is fine at 3, steadies the ship. He isn't anywhere near aggressive enough to open.

He scores lots of runs at a reasonable rate.

Doubt he'd be any more aggressive if opening.

Re: How Should Trott Bat
Its not a case of being more aggressive, opening he could look to bat all 50 overs and look to score a hundred every innings
Re: How Should Trott Bat
But if he doesn't get a hundred, he's more likely to get us off to a slow start opening.
Admittedly, he hasn't taken advantage of batting power-plays later in the innings as well as he might have, but, if he's still there then, he's likely to have a few runs behind him and is more likely to be able to up his scoring rate than during the opening power-play. That's just my opinion of course, but I reckon he's better off where he is.
The important thing for me is flexibility in the batting line-up. If we lose a wicket early, send in someone who can score quicker to try and take advantage of the power-play. If we get of to a flyer, or if we lose a couple of early wickets, Trott's the ideal man to consolidate or steady the ship.

First ODI of this series when KP came in at 3?
But, yeah, our batting line-up is usually etched in stone unfortunately.

If KP came in at 3 more often then I wouldn't be as critical as him as I usually am...

Why? Do you believe that it's KPs decision?

Re: How Should Trott Bat
Its not his decision but when we are still in the powerplay sending KP in will mean that his usual game might not get him out
Re: How Should Trott Bat
his batting is fine as it is for the majority of a match
if hes still at the crease in the last half dozen overs or so tho and we have wickets in hand he needs to be able to hit out or just get out and let someone who can hit boundaries in

well KP isn't at the crease for the last half dozen overs very often these days
