ATP 500 Basel 2011
First topic message reminder :
After a long pre off-season season, a week of delicious tennis is upon us.
The field is studded with top hard-courters lead by The Best, the In-Hot-Form and the Goat, formerly known as the local ball-boy.
Also in Basel we have: Berdych, Wawrinka, Fish, Tispsarevic, Roddick, Ljubicic.
The tournament sounds great on paper, and it's a shame we are missing French players Tsonga and Monfils.
The big question has been answered: Federer falls in Murray's half (cooo, I must say that sounds weird...)
The draw:
http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2011/328/mds.pdf
Matches start tomorrow, with the "big" names probably starting on Tuesday, Nole's first match against Malisse starts at 17.30.
Order of play (the final) for Sunday, 6th of November
http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2011/328/op.pdf
Provided he continues where he stopped in September form-wise, Nole should get through his half safely. The juicy question is: who will be on the other side of the net this time next week?

So how did you go, then? And how do you know what you look like when you play?

Good question. It's not perfect science but just watching at a ball's direction and pace you know whether you can put your racquet on it or not but more importantly whether you can be in good position to strike. I am younger than Mc but I felt he was still much faster than me and both were more explosive than me.
The key I guess is that they spend their life moving around whereas I sadly spend way too much time in front of my pc....or in the kitchen.

The Basel TD is giving old man Federer quite a rest.
I watched WTT for a while. No matter how old these guys from 80s, 90s, 00s are, their love of the game is still amazing and wonderful to watch. :hatoff:
No, they can no longer serve at 120mph+, but still they are pretty good.

Re: ATP 500 Basel 2011
You must get your wife to video you....not in the kitchen, of course! When I saw myself serve, I immediately started hitting the ball with a bigger swing proper , full shoulder roll....I didn't realise I kept my volleyball "serve" motion up to then because it worked...it was quite funny...I have no idea whether it's faster, but it looks more "with it"Tenez wrote:noleisthebest wrote:"I had no interest at all in who was going to win of course. Cogen had a video of himself on 606 last year, we were all marking his artistic forehand , do you remember it?

Very thankful that no video of me playing tennis (or an approximation of the game!) exists!!! Interesting to hear about AH Tenez - I will definitely have to go next year as I can't this, but then Johnny Mac may not be playing
Just seen Murray out with right gluteal muscle strain - I had hurried home, eager to see score line so somewhat put out to find he hadn't played. Hope it's nothing major, but it's still a pain in the ar&e (boom, boom!) - oh that's already been done! I am quite sure CC that the Maestro has never caused even the slightest twinge in anyone's buttocks - now I've typed that it just looks so wrong!

What is it with these players all having cramps in the wrong places
At least it happened in bed, not in the press conference....
I don't know what sort of exercise they are doing but a bit of old-fashioned stretching would not go amiss, stuff those ice-baths....

It doesn't sound as if it was the ice bath wot caused the problem

Of course Federer is well know for stepping up to the occasion and is one of the very few to have beaten Djokovic this year. Put it this way, I wouldn't put a large bet on either way (adjusts so is sitting more comfortably on the fence)

What happened to Nolemon? His serve was as effective as a chocolate fireguard yestday, and now he concedes 0 break points.

Re: ATP 500 Basel 2011
The American is playing his first tournament since the death of his manager, Ken Meyerson, on 19 October. "It’s certainly not easy," he said. "You go back to, 'what would he have wanted me to do?' and he was always up for me playing. That’s what he enjoyed. I think the easiest times I’ve had are where my mind is occupied with something. It’s those times when you’re not doing anything that it’s hard. This obviously occupies my mind a little bit."
This is rather sad to know.

Most of the time you appear to be a nice enough person. Then I see comment (by you?) at 6.10 on 3/11 on tennis.com. What is it with you using tennis forums for your own agenda? You've done it here too. Denigrating certain tennis players. This is 2011 you know!

Morning legend Absolutely spot on comment!
Hawkeye - I've just finished saying how I hated one poster 'outing' your 606 identity in order to convince everyone that you had a dislike towards a certain player and to stir up antipathy towards you.
We have just all had a heart to heart, and things are fragile but amicable I think - we all should be building positively on that and just concerned with how people behave on this forum. If you want to fight about it - take it over there please.
