Who do you think should be the next Springbok coach?
Next Springbok coach.
so far it seems as if Jake white might be interested, Rassie Erasmus and Allister coetzee apparently said no, John Mitchell also said no. Victor Matfield reckons Heyneke Meyer won't be interested either.
SABC, says even though coetzee and Erasmus have said no they are comitted to the Stormers, the Stormers will release them if their application is successful. so it seems most are keeping their cards close to their chests at this stage.

IMO Erasmus is your man. The Stormers play the best rugby of any SA franchise. He has won 2 Currie Cups and I would say done wonders at Stormers.
Re: Next Springbok coach.
What is the point of having a Poll when many of them have indicated they are not interested,?

The board is quiet, what people say and do are two different things, and i'm bored.

Who dared put PDV as a choice, you must be drawn and quartered.

Re: Next Springbok coach.
Looking at the achievements alone I would go for Ludeke. Two super 14 titles is fairly good. The only coach with a higher achievement is Jake White, but I feel reappointing a former coach is a bit of a backward step, especially only four years later, as there will be a history and a certain amount of politics between him and some of the players from last time around.

Re: Next Springbok coach.
screamingaddabs, my concern with Ludeke is he inherited the team from Heyneke Meyer who really built it, and won the first Super 14 title, the other problem with Ludeke and it the same with Jake White and allister Coetzee. They haven't brought anything new to the table in terms of gameplay.
We need someone in the mould of Nick Mallet under whom we played well balanced rugby, or Naka Drotske who has to rebuild a team almost every year as the Cheetahs do not have the money to hold their players but do play exciting rugby. John Mitchell is in my opinion the obvious choice and SARU should do whatever is necessary to convince him to take the job.
We do not have his caliber coach in SA.

It's a shame rassie couldn't coach them - he seemed to do a good job for the cheetahs all them years ago - but I think that not many stadiums would let him up on the roof to put his lights on!

Re: Next Springbok coach.
If SARU went to either Rassie or Coetzee and said they were the man for the job they would not turn it down. They're patriotic bokke, someone like Rassie would probably do it for free... slight exaggeration but you know what I'm saying.
People don't say in public that they are interested because they don't want to look like they were overlooked.
Ludeke won't get the job... as BB said he has done very little at the bulls to warrant selection.
The problem for the boks is that they have 5 franchises and only 3 have SA coaches. Thats a very small list to choose from.
I think Venter would be a good call, young guy, been a bok and certainly had an eye for talent whilst he was at Saracens.

I don't think venter would be any good - remember what an ass he made of himself with the media over here! I think the Bokke need a coach who can do the business and also be social to the media - 1 PDV is enough for 1 generation!

Re: Next Springbok coach.
I cant ever imagine South Africa contemplating appointing a non south African to the position of Springbok coach.
Rassie coached the team for one week this year and they improved by a thousand per cent.

Re: Next Springbok coach.
I was going to vote PDV just for the comedy value alone, and as an England fan then I must say he usually kept me assumed, although for most South Africans I guess the term would be bemused (not to mention down right angry from time to time).
Anyway, I voted Nick Mallet. However, that choice changes if MJ steps down or is given the push. If that happens then I want him as head coach of England please.

Re: Next Springbok coach.
Alan Mitchell didnt get on with people who were making available every resource to the AB's. How would he go with an administration that have their own agenda's.
The frustration would get to him and he would end up taking it out on his players... good when winning digs himself a hole when losing.... then moves on...bit like the Stepfather movie...
