First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing picture of newly retired Gareth 'Alfie' Thomas.

Also a special picture of Thomas Domingo and wishing him all the best on a speedy recovery.

So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Mickado - I'm glad the interview seemed to go well for you. Fingers crossed. As for drug testing, no they shouldn't. If they must do, it should be on a voluntary basis, and they should explain why the test is required.

No it's not as a rule Micky T. If employers want to introduce random drug testing they have to justify it by doing a risk assessment, and thus providing a good business case for doing so.

Thanks Asbo, I've just read that on the BBC blog about it.

Mickado, I've never been drug-tested by an employer. More fool them, I'm smacked up to my eyeballs most of the time...

But you wouldn't know, that's the point of a random drugs test. Anyway, drug testing potential employees and existing employees is very unusual because it's difficult to justify it, and we're protected by the Data Protection Act in this country.

Exactly, that employer has done a risk assessment which has established that their work requires random drug/alcohol tests. Those employees should be aware of that though.

Bakkies has finally signed for Toulon, although it will be at least 2 months before he plays-achilles heel.Leonardo Senatore has also been signed as a cover for Fernandez Lobbe(out at least 6 months), so Shawsey's arrival on Le Rade looks doubtful, although Mourad still wants him

I don't think there is much time for him in the big games but thought he had done OKAY and maybe a spot on the bench wouldn't have been out of the questions.

I don't envisage he will get into many HC squard either. I just wasn't sure if he would have been about this weekend as he has been decent

OK Chef thanks for the Shaw update.

Afternoon folks.

Referring to earlier, the Cotton enquiry did not get off to a good start with yer man being anything but objective in his approach. He had practically announced the ‘guilty parties’ in his view with his first comments on the subject. Thomas going has put an end to a potential embarrassment imo.

Nigel Owens pouring his heart out on Twitter.

it would appear a fella he was seeing was cheating on him and living with someone else.

apparently Owens had been paying for everything over in NZ (this is what his tweets are saying)

Feel sorry for the fella but probably not the best place to announce it over twitter as the media and the likes will pick up on it.

Still refreshing to see someone so honest on it

I have one friend who gets drug random tests in work. But he's a pharmaceutical researcher or something like that. So maybe they need to be sure he's not taking any of the drugs he's working with. I think Garda recruits might get one when they're applying to be cops too. Apart from that it would be unusual to get drug tested I reckon.

I think many people pour their hearts out on Facebook/Twitter and regret it later, but like you say Lucky, it'll be too late then. I guess they just need to offload some of whatever's bothering them. Trouble with social networking is you're open to abuse as well as helpful advice and comfort.

He seems to be getting lots of advice and comfort so far. haven't anything to the contrary but as Lucky says it might open up now tomorrow at the rugby.

That said, it is nice to know that it won't get as bad as it would if it was a football match he was reffing..

For starters, he probably wouldn't have been able to "come out" in the first place

I don't think that needs to be a reason not to use Twitter or any other medium like that.

I use both and I very rarely put anything up that expresses any thing too personal that I don't want people to know or that I might regret later.

That's a fair point Micky. I wouldn't post much on Twitter if I did use it anyway (one of the other reasons I've never bothered with it) There are other reasons I won't use it as well, that was just one of them.

I have two twitter accounts.

1. for the marching band. its a good way of getting networking opportunities and some of the local bodies retweet your notices etc that can generate interest.

2. my own personal one. I rarely tweet something myself and would rather just stalk famous people seeing what they are saying and retweeting anything of interest.

I will also occasionally try get a wee chat going with some of them.

this has been successful with:
Nigel Owens
Rob Kearney
Jonathan Davies
Amy Huberman
Geordan Murphy
Bernard Jackman

and one or two local radio hosts over here.
