The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing picture of newly retired Gareth 'Alfie' Thomas.
Also a special picture of Thomas Domingo and wishing him all the best on a speedy recovery.
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

I know that we can beat every team in our pool, both at home and away, we have a lot of talent in the side, in particular in the backs, but equally we could lose to every one of these sides home or away. I'll settle for decent performances in the Heino but no QF if it means we can maintain a challenge in the AP and pinch a play off place, which has to be our target.
And you've avoided the Scarlets.

It's coming, I should just send it. I held off because I thought I would get some programmes then I haven't been home...
Although, this is a kind of test. The ability to deal with constant promise that is never delivered upon is written into the Ulster fans constitution

Hey All
Had an absolute blast at the Liberty. Great company, not a great game, but my god I had Schlong and Tommy almost in my lap for the whole first half Got some tidy photos...Penfro's will be better cause he's got a super duper camera. I was just telling him where to point it
I actually liked the Liberty Stadium as a venue. Much easier to get in and out of than the CCS, and it's deceptively large - looks a lot more enclosed when you're sat in it.

Good comeback by Irish today pete. Will Greenwood's article in the DT was almost prophetic
Did not get to see any of the W. Wales derby owing to people wanting to watch footy....on all feicen three screens!!! I thought we had them trained in that pub

Booth made a point of saying that Greenwood had done his team talk for him when they interviewed him after the game. I'm still not sure how we came away with the draw to be honest. They had 75% possession in the first half, and 60% possession in the second, we conceded 17 penalties and 17 turnovers, and I think we got about 6 penalties in total, yet we outscored them 3 tries to 2.
That is just mental.

Evenin all. Good win for London Scottish this afternoon, 32-17 over Esher and they got a BP. LS had a big advantage in the scrum but it took them until the 2nd half to really make use of it.

Pete, well done today.
Spoils shared at the Liberty. Maybe Scarlets a little bit happier.
Pleased with the Ulster win even thought there were still too many mistakes.
Glas, I am celebrating our win with a very nice 1999 Louis Canas Reserva Rioja. Thought of you yesterday when I saw a car in the Sperrins with the registration: -

You must be pleased with Ulster getting a win under the belt before the Heino begins mate.

I still fancy us at home Pete. No team really relishes coming to Ravenhill. I am more concerned about the wounded Tiger.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Pretty good sport day for me too Pete; I met an auld fella at the track today. After chatting to him for a bit about Irish sport in general, he casually mentions he won a medal at the Olympics in the 1960s. Turns out it was Jim McCourt, a bit of an Irish boxing legend!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_McCourt
So was chatting to him about a few things. Was great to see the twinkle in the old mans eyes as he was telling me about winning Gold at the Commonwealth games.
Then at Ravenhill, the two mini-rugby teams were from Donegal- new clubs that didn't exist just a year or two ago. Finn Valley RFC and Tir Chonaill RFC. Seeing those kids who would never have had the opportunity to pick up a rugby ball until the very recent past run out on the hallowed turf of Ravenhill was really nice. Having been working at the Ulster Juniors cross-country that morning and seeing the number of coaches from Donegal and Monaghan, I think sport across the border in Ulster has a bright future and thats bringing people together and building bridges.
So, even putting aside Ulster winning, those two incidents really reminded me of why sport is such a great thing
