The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing picture of newly retired Gareth 'Alfie' Thomas.
Also a special picture of Thomas Domingo and wishing him all the best on a speedy recovery.
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Not a bad weekend. Sarries don't play particularly well but still win 53-0 in the cup Had a nice evening in the company on the "3 Witches" down at the Library. Best of all, my sleep patterns have returned to normal
I'll post something on Face Ache later. but I quick heads up on plans for the BIG weekend in December.
FRIDAY 9TH - I will be going along to Blues v Edinburgh. If I get enough people we can save some money as I can buy batches of 10 tickets at just £10 per ticket (instead of the normal £20) so let me know who wants tickets
SATURDAY 10TH - train down to Llanelli and back (£11 return !!) means we can have a few drinkies before and after the game. Glas if you and yours want to crash at ours before heading to Bath on Sunday you are more than welcome
SUNDAY 11TH - over to Bath for the Leinster game, not too sure if we'll be able to make Exeter as well

Afternoon people, please.
Looks like I'm now in the redundancy club Bit of a surprise but these things happen I guess. They've sent those affected home to 'have a think'. 'Think' I'm job hunting!!

Aww, what a bummer swanny, and just before Christmas
Afternoon pub. Woo hoo - 5 days to Bordeaux. If the game's on. I'm not sure what ERC's rules are about rescheduling games postponed due to illness.

Thank you people. Now I've gotten over the initial shock I'm kind of ok about it.
Maybe it's time to get out of my comfort zone and do something different. God knows my mother has always complained that I don't use the intelligence I was born with so perhaps it's time to stop her complaining

Swanny - really sorry to hear that. I was in a very similar state last August. I have a really useful pack that I was given to help those facing redundancy, and you're welcome to receive it if you think it'll help you. Just PM me your address and I'll post it on. It's got tips and things to help with job searching and career advice etc.
Anyone - I'm not committing myself to any of the meets because of my work situation, I don't know what sort of hours I'll be doing so may not be back in time to attend games, and have to fork out for transport.

That's my problem Stag, and always has been. I'm a bit of a magpie when it comes to interests, loads of things pique my curiosity but I've never found one thing that grabs my attention that I would love to do long-term.
Couple that with a low boredom threshold and an allergy to authority and you get an awkward cocktail
Hence I've spent my entire working life flitting between various admin and retail jobs but never stuck at one job for more than 5 years.
Cari, yes please! That would be hugely appreciated

Dim problem - I'll have to pick up at home and send it on tomorrow. Having been designed and written by the Civil Service, you may find some bits tell you how to suck eggs, but it's actually got some really useful bits in as well. Tells you about coping with redundancy emotionally and things like that as well.

To be fair there's a lot of people like that Swanny - my colleague is one of them. She's been in the civil service since she left school at 16 and has only ever worked for the same department for nearly 30 years. Now she's had to take voluntary redundancy and has to think about what she wants to do but she has no idea. She's been getting a lot of help from the local careers service who can help with assessments and things, so it may be worth you contacting them in your area.

Ah no! Stag, the value of the trip has just dropped significantly!
(only joking)
That's gutting for him. The 6N is going to be a very different place with spme of the retirements. What's the bets he's made Irish backs coach by the summer.

Yeah he'll be back I'm sure but whether thats a good idea or not for him and Ireland is another thing. He looked busted in the RWC and maybe his body has had enough. 100+ caps and 12 seasons at centre is amazing.

If this is the end of O'Driscoll at international level it's such a great shame. No one deserves to have his (international) career ended by injury, let alone one of the greatest we've seen in the last twenty years.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
The line is that its not career threatening. I'm nearly certain the aim will be to return for the summer tour to NZ. Its a big blow to miss so much gametime at this stage of his career but he clearly hasn't been right for a few months. Trapped nerve or something. Thats why he's been uncharectistically missing so many tackles.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
SWANNY – don’t know if you have this up with you http://www.careerchangewales.co.uk/react-funding.html
The ReAct is a programme that provides funding for training for those living here who are facing redundancy. If eligible, up to £1,500 (I think) will be awarded by the Welsh Assembly to help you get the skills you need to land a job. You can train while you are job hunting or you can go on courses to get the skills you need even if you plan to become self employed eventually.
The scheme can also help employers who are recruiting staff, by paying money towards wages (£3000 in instalments I believe) .
Might be worth investigating if you’ve something similar

He wasn't 100% in the Heineken Cup final either, was he? The positive for him is that he can get it sorted and come back fully fit, and the positive for Ireland is that they're forced to use next year's Six Nations to look at his potential successors.

Penfro - I know that my colleagues in the North of England (Teeside area to be exact) and Midlands don't have a similar scheme because they were telling us that they wish they did. However, there should be careers advice available through the local DWP.

Swanney,
That's good and bad innit?
Problem is now, you may have to travel to work
Do you have an "out by date",or can you negociate that?
Asbo, Here's the ASM sick list;Malzieu and Russell are fit again, and the RWC players are back in contention for this Weekend;Bennet is in rehab.

The process is due to be complete by Weds 23rd November so I think that will be last day, or possibly the Friday of that week.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Bad news for BOD. Great news for O Malley and McFadden. It will force Schmidt and Kidney's hands now. Will Kidney get lucky yet again? Because no way would he have changed it.
BOD was operating at half-strength for most of the last year. I hope he comes back and has to steal his spot back for Leinster. Not sure about Ireland.
But, I'm so sure he will be back. Anyone else.. maybe not. But him? Yes.
I would now see McFadden & O Malley as our new center-partnership. Darcy really had a telepathic combo with BOD. That is gone - for now. So it makes sense to develop a new pairing, imo.
In the meantime - get fit & well soon Brian. See ya back in May.

Anyone else reckon Kidney is just gonna put Earls at 13 and Trimble on the wing?
More than likely:
09 Murray
10 Sexton
11 Trimble
12 Darcy
13 Earls
14 Bowe
15 Kearney

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Evening all,
I applied for a governing award course and they told me to come in and pay today. I arrived in to find that it had been filled so I've been put on the waiting list. I then find out that someone who had registered later than I had had been put on it. Very frustrating as this would have been a very good course to do.
What is also really bugging me is that while I haven't completely committed to the idea, I think that I have decided to do primary school teaching instead of secondary school. I told my mother and she wasn't happy at the idea. We talked and it came out that basically she didn't like the idea because I wouldn't be able to come back to Ireland on the degree I'd get.
I have now got a wonderful opportunity to work in a school in Tanzania for my work based learning where I would only have to pay for flights and a visa as we would have accommodation out there but once again telling both of my parents about it, both seemed far from enthused.
Just feeling flat at the moment.
