Gaitan is never going to be a £40m player and will never be as good a player as Cazorla, whilst Alba is only playing for Spain whilst Monreal is injured.

Assured in defence and quick to join in every attack, he looks a much better bet than either World Cup-winner Joan Capdevila or Real Madrid's Alvaro Arbeloa, who would much prefer to play on the right. Liverpool's in-form Jose Enrique can't even get a look in.

He looked good, but then the game was against Scotland wasn't it. And the reason he is a better bet than Capdevila for the future is because Capdevila is 33.

But I would still say that Monreal is ahead of him and would have played in that game had he been fit
