Surrey news/articles
Hi guys
Just a quick one to let you know that I have spoken with All Out Cricket regarding the amount of Surrey fans we have here at 606v2, and they're going to look to provide any Surrey related blogs/news/articles that they have to this section. Given that their office is located near to the Oval, they often chat with the Surrey guys and as such get some good interviews, so hopefully they can get some of those across here for you fellas to get your teeth into.
Cheers

Fists - you and others on 606 v2 are looking after us so well.
A forthcoming Cricket Fantasy League, a fortnightly quiz (when's it starting, CricketFan? Thought I should ask as Shanky hasn't for a couple of hours! ) and now a link up with All Out Cricket for Surrey features.
Really spoiling us. Surprised that the Corporal can even think of leaving his armchair to go and watch the Hammers ....

CF - not going to be around all the time so not yet but maybe later on if I'm allowed. Good luck with it!
Suggest you deduct points for any talking back to the question master. That should soon get Shanky on a negative score ....

surrey could probably do with another batsman to replace Ramps. He's 41 now, and didnt look in much nick last year

Re: Surrey news/articles
If we need another batsman I would nominate Sir Jack Hobbs for a recall - I see that he turned out for Hull City today against the Hammers.

Re: Surrey news/articles
be intresting to see how much Surrey get to play tremlett next season. i think it will be a bit more than they think, wuth Finn performing well, and bresnan doing well in test cricket, tremeltt got injured at the wrong time.

Re: Surrey news/articles
i think Surrey could do ok next season. They generally have a good squad just need to get another batsman i think, and a back up keeper in case, davies goes away with england or gets injured.

Re: Surrey news/articles
Very little chances of that happening tbh.cricketfan90 wrote:i think Surrey could do ok next season. They generally have a good squad just need to get another batsman i think, and a back up keeper in case, davies goes away with england or gets injured.
Quite a few guys ahead of him.

Harinath in the 2nd XI has looked good for several years, but hasn't had many opportunities in first team; he's one who might break through....

cricketfan90 wrote:any news on whether ramps will still be around next season?
He is certainly planning to be.
A common view - which I definitely agree with - is that Ramps would like to go out with a fanfare at the Oval rather than quietly announce his retirement in the winter.
That said, Ramps is nobody's fool. If his body clearly isn't up to it, he'll call it a day sooner than later. At the moment, he is doing everything to be as fit and ready as possible for the start of next season.
Things could go either way but my best guess is that he'll play next season and that will be his last.

For anyone who was unaware - Jason Roy is out playing for the Chittagong Kings in the Bangladesh Premier League T20 tournament. 2 games in he has scored 46 off 25 and 36 off 29. Good to see him in the runs in any from tbh, especially after his Lions tour didn't go too well.

Good to see one of the Surrey players hitting a bit of form overseas - been fairly thin pickings otherwise....

Meaker did pretty well for Lions before he got injured but RHB had a winter to forget for sure.

Rudolph signed up for Surrey as an overseas player for the early period while Kartik away. Probably a good move.

Reported today on the wallpaper site that Chris Jordan has taken 5 wickets for Barbados against Guyana. It would be good if he is in contention for first team selection for Surrey.

Re: Surrey news/articles
Surrey have named the squad for the first pre season game which starts tomorrow against Essex, the 21st of March! Would you believe it!?
Rory Hamilton-Brown (capt)
Tom Lancefield
Arun Harinath
Matthew Spriegel
Tom Maynard
Jason Roy
Rory Burns
Jon Lewis
Stuart Meaker
Tim Linley
Jade Dernbach
George Edwards
I'd imagine Edwards will miss out, leaving us 4 strong bowlers and Spriegel as a spinner. A good chance for Lancefield, Harinath and Burns to try and force their way into contention

A particularly important game for Spriegel. A decent all round performance would help put him in contention for the opening CC game whilst a poor showing may lead to another season of one dayers and second eleven fixtures.

Productive Day at Chelmsford
Well, Burns did alright. Shame about too many of the others.Corporalhumblebucket wrote:Yes a most interesting squad. Wonder how Burns will get on.
Surrey all out for 212. Most of the runs coming from Meaker (47*), Burns (44) and Lancefield (41). Twenty odd from both Hyphen and Spriegel. 7 runs in total from Roy, Harinath and Maynard - hmmm.
In reply, Essex are 79 - 2, a wicket each for Meaker and Lewis. It's a two innings match with an agreement as to the number of overs per innings. All twelve in each squad are playing although clearly only a maximum of eleven can bat and bowl (as expected, Edwards didn't bat).
Yes, first pre-season game in the third week of March but not fantastically encouraging in my humble view.
The Club website though are of a different opinion. Under the heading 'Productive Day at Chelmsford', it is reported:'Surrey will be happy with their efforts with both bat and ball'.

Re: Surrey news/articles
Greetings everyone!... certainly down on the south coast it feels like the cricket season is getting close!
Really looking forward to what lies ahead this summer.. hoping for a consolidation on the huge progress made last season... not expecting any silverware but if could even finish mid table, that would be good!
not so hopeful about the Hammers mind you! - playoff's here we come!
apologies for being off topic!

Hi chichester. Interesting season ahead for Surrey.
As a Warks man I'm hoping we can go one better than last year, though that'd be some achievement!

Hi Chichester. We're gradually nearing full complement of Surrey posters in time for new season!
Guildford - sounds like Roy is already trying to emulate Frank Woolley
A minor classic from the Surrey website - sometimes their interpretation of events has a good deal more spin than a Batty delivery!
Pleased that Burns scored some runs.

Feeble batting performance by Surrey today but at least Lancefield is making a claim - not to be the forgotten man.

Re: Surrey news/articles
Surrey's 13 man squad for the next 4 days at Taunton is pretty much the same, Edwards had been replaced by the returning Chris Jordan and Freddie van den Bergh. We play Somerset in a one day game today and then a 3 day match starting tomorrow. Somerset have named a very strong squad so it will certainly be a test, personally I just want our batsmen to get some runs, the bowling will be OK I think, just getting miles in their legs will be a good thing.

Re: Surrey news/articles
Somerset made 300-5 in their 40 overs, Trego was out for 99, Kieswetter made 81, Trescothick 33, Compton 41 and Buttler 0.
Dernbach: 1-37, Lewis: 1-59, Jordan: 1-50, Spriegel: 1-36 were the wicket takers (plus a run out).
Currently Surrey are 142-2 in the 22nd over, Burns opened but was out for 8, Harinath just out for 62. Roy is on 67*.

Surreys chase somewhat fell apart from there, Roy out for 82, ducks for Spriegel and Maynard. Hyphen was 'rested' for this one apparently, very odd. Presumably he'll play in the 3 day game.

Re: Surrey news/articles
Hi Carrot - well, even though we lost by 50 runs we made 250 so you pretty much you got what you wanted . Pleasing to see both Roy and Harinath getting good scores. Lancefield also continuing his decent form with a knock of 29.Carrotdude wrote:We play Somerset in a one day game today .... personally I just want our batsmen to get some runs, the bowling will be OK I think, just getting miles in their legs will be a good thing.
That said, we aren't exactly firing on all cylinders at the moment and still need to go some to get back in the groove. The bowlers are far from knocking the opposition over whilst Maynard, in particular, is really struggling for runs.
It's the Club's AGM on Thursday. The euphoria from last September should prevent too many awkward pre-season questions being asked although I'll have a go if anyone wants me to raise anything ....
