* * * MANCHESTER UNITED FANS * * *
Bonjourno!
I read a lot of articles from fans of Manchester United FC about picking their greatest team of all time. Isee so many foreign players in your team and not many English. We here in Italy could have an all star Itallian team for AC Millan, Juventus etc no problem.
SO, what is Manchester United FCs best ever ENGLISH team? How would it compete today. By English I mean English passport holder. NOT Ryan Giggs!
Good luck! I doubt it would be good enough to beat an all star All Itallian AC Millan team!

oo a challenge, and aye Giggs wouldn't be able to be counted.
Will have to have a think on this, only became a Man U fan in the mid 90's myself, so won't be as clued up as others. Hmmm, who to choose.....

I think the GK position could be the most difficult. It seems to have been the Great Dane forever! (All i can think of is Ben Foster!)

Paul Ince maybe, on the bench perhaps.

Ince probably burnt his bridges with the Old Trafford faithful when he went to Liverpool.

Couldn't decide on Robbo or Scholes in the centre, with Charlton there I'd probably go with Robbo in though big Dunc was meant to be an absolute rock who could play pretty much anywhere on the pitch so could easily slot protect the defence if I went with Scholes/Charlton going forward.
Re: * * * MANCHESTER UNITED FANS * * *
I thought of Ince but when I have Robson and Stiles there, there wasn't really the need for another ball winner.

Just to point out Law is Scottish
Other than that it is a formidable team

I think Law was scottish was he not?! you can always move charlton forward and stick robbo in. otherwise andy cole??!!
in reality it is still a cracking team, with the typical balance that united sides in their pomp have always had. Not just individuals but a team.

I'd facepalm myself if that was still an option! Instead then...

There is no English passport holder, British yes.
Nobby Stiles has to be in that team.

Older posters might consider David Herd who joined Untd from Arsenal and was a prolific goalscorer in the 1960s. (or was he Scottish ?) Dirtiest player - probably Maurice Setters, who I did see play.
Never saw Henry Cockburn from the 1950s but I understand he was a seriously hard man. Paddy Crerand was another who could look after himself while Denis Law - a truly great player and one of the most charismatic players ever - was no saint.
