Glasgow under the radar 4 by 4 by 4
With 4 wins on the trot, it seems that Glasgow is making some steady progress this year and is just 4 points off the top of the table in 4th place.
(nice 4 x 4 x 4)
While a long way to go, it is nice to see one of the Scottish teams starting to be in the mix. Hopefullly they can take that form into the H Cup and finally get out of the group stages.
Did anyone see the match, what were the positives, why did Beattie get Yellow and are there signs we might be a contender this year>
Some positive news is just want the doctor orders - more please

Suspect it's too early to say whether the Warriors will be a contender or not, Risky, but it's certainly heartening to see the progress being made by Glasgow (and Edinburgh). No HC pools are 'easy', but arguably Glasgow will have a more tricky time getting out of theirs than Edinburgh just by looking at the opposition:
* Glasgow - Leinster, Bath & Montpellier
* Edinburgh - London Irish, Racing Metro 92 & Cardiff
Still think it'll be a stretch for either of the pro-districts to make it thru to the quarters

Glasgow certainly have the harder group but it is good to see them up there at the moment.
Still think Edinburgh ought to play elsewhere other than Murrayfield as very little atmosphere there.

The SRU are looking into alternative grounds again, bedford, but the range of options is v limited - basically it boils down to temp stands on the backfields at Murrayfield or a mahussive redevelopment of Meadowbank in a joint-sharing deal with althleticsbedfordwelsh wrote:Glasgow certainly have the harder group but it is good to see them up there at the moment.

Not sure about contenders, hard to look past one of the two Irish provinces topping the table, but a top four finish would be an excellent achievement for a side almost permanently in transition, and with about 1/5 of the budget of Cardiff or the Ospreys.

Would love to see one of the Scottish sides do well in the HC. The SRU need something to generate some interest and success of the 2 domestic teams could go along way to helping that.

While it would be a big ask for either of them to get a quarter final place in the HC, there would be some merit in thinking one of them could force their way into the latter stages of the Amlin Cup. Any sort of European cup run would be good for the country as a whole.

Why not set a simple target of winning 3 games in the HC?
Either 3 home wins or 2 home wins and an away win.
It's a realistic target.

IMO every team in the Heineken Cup should be aiming at a minium to win their home games and Glasgow are no exception. They have recorded great victories over Toulouse and Biarritz in recent years and have a handful of excellent players such as Gray, Beattie, Barclay and Cusiter.
3 wins should be there absolute minimum aim.

Indeed red stag.
Obviously our clubs should have a little higher expectations though as respective winners of our domestic leagues.

I can't see two teams coming out of Glasgows pool. So to win a group with Bath and Leinster in it is a tough ask for Glasgow.
Sunday's game is almost a knock out game for us. Lose and its going to be a massive ask to win the group.

Well they do always say that winning your home games is minimum and try pick up losing BPs on the road.

I don't think that Bath are a great team and Glasgow could aim for second in that table.
Question is would second be enough to get into Q-final, or even Amlin cup?

What we want is them to front up against Bath - like they did v Wasps last year in the HC. Not the way they let Biarritz walk all over them last year. Carry on where they left off in the 2nd half v Ospreys last week and we will do it.
