606v2 weekend gathering - Part Deux

First topic message reminder :

The weekend of March 23/24/25th has been suggested as a potential date for us all to get-together for a meet. Hopefully this is early enough in the year to avoid any competitions and it is also 2 weeks before Easter so shouldn't clash with any school holidays.

So, bottom line is, are you prepared to commit to this weekend at a venue somewhere between Birmingham and Manchester that is suitable for the majority?

I'm in Dorset but depending who else is going, I can probably arrange to car share.

And I've voted yes to the date

Ive had a think about it and put myself down as a no. Im in Brighton and cant see myself making a trip up to Manchester with a new baby in the house.
Can see why thats a good location though, just doesnt work for me.

I will probably have to say no to this little soiree as I have travel plans very near those dates, so it would be stretching both budget and annual leave to attend. I actually might not be too far from Kwini.

I must say, as a fellow resident of Sussex, the further north it is the less likely I am to play. Obviously, that would be a shame on my part, but you have to do what's best for the group.

With Mac's withdrawal, the mid-point has just moved slightly further South

Not quite, s_r is even further north than Mac.

Guys I'm willing to go anywhere as I think it will be a great weekend, and lets face it half of us won't do ourselves any justice out on course, but will have some great craic.

If this event dies the death now, it will diminish into suggestions about a northern event and a southern event. History shows us that this doesn't work and fails, as it has in the past. We need a good turn out, even if its just for this year, but the big thing that will come out of it is; that groups of us will get together for more local meets, and people who may be in a certain vicinity will make sure they make contact with someone and get together for a knock. I applaud the guys who have already had mini-meets and think the best way to encourage this is to get as many people introduced in person as we possibly can.

Its only been a couple of days but we got 21 people who want to do it. If this event is pushed you just know more will want to come, and yes there will also be some who for personal reasons or unexpected issues, cannot attend, which is fine and to be expected. But if we don't try and make it happen, it never will.

I second that motion on the LJ front. Need as many low-handicappers with camels like me playing.... vis-a-vis venues, what about somewhere like Shropshire? that's reasonably accessible to all (isn't that OPW territory?)

The date is the one in the OP, venue still to be decided, the next task is to find out the locations of those intending to come along then find somewhere convenient to as many as possible.

OK folks, we have 11 people that have voted yes to meeting up so can I please ask that those who intend coming along please send me a PM with your location so I can see who is where and try to find a suitable venue. Also, if you intend to bring any mates along then I'll also need the numbers and locations for them too.

11 people is more than enough for a good meet up but the more the merrier.

Once we find a venue, I'll try to reserve some rooms and then each individual can pay directly. I'm certainly not prepared to pay a load of deposits with the possibility of not getting anything back from no-shows.

Person responsible for providing spare bog roll incase of sharting incidents:

Man responsible for finding local Nurses up for a good time:

Person responsible for bailing MAV out for doing highly inappropriate things:

Man/Lady responsible for making sure we all turn up for tee times after the night before:

Person responsible for coming up with valid excuse to give to Mrs on why those pictures are on the internet and videos on youtube:

Initially we had 21 with only a couple of withdrawls, so should be 19 at least as well as a couple of mates and LJ etc.

Have been doing a bit of research for the Manchester area and Manchester golf club looks ok.Cheap as well at around £50 per person in a society do.
