Bryce Lawrence nominated for referee of the year award!

To add insult to injury for many South African rugby fans, Bryce Lawrence has been nominated as New Zealand's referee of the year alongside Glen Jackson and top female referee Nicky Inwood.

I would think this will leave a very bad taste in the mouth of many south African rugby fans who still has very little good to say about the way Bryce Lawrence allowed Australia and in particular David Pocock to transgress the breakdowns during their world cup quarter final clash.

This only adds fire to the conspiracy theory that is floating around in SA where the theory is that Bryce had to "assist" the path of elimination for the All Black's more fearsome opponents.

Well what can I say, in the least this is rubbing salt in the wounds of many a South African fan.

The RWC has lost all its magic for me this year – and yes I know people will say its because we did not win it but you know what, think what you will. This RWC has been ‘bought’.

Once the NZ rugby public gets over their honeymoon period I actually reckon they will agree.

In my opinion NZRU can do what they want, but it does create the perception that incompetent refereeing is acceptable in New Zealand and not really encouraging fair contests.

What better reason for the All Blacks to do it? That's just the sort of calculated insult they specialise in. "You must respect our tradition of showing you disrespect . You must allow us to challenge you to do battle, but you must not respond". I'm sick of it. They are wrecking rugby by bringing in laws designed to stiffle Boks forward play. They have the IRB by the testicles. The fine of France really was a farcical situation and only served to highlight this. However blydi clever they think they are though, Rugby will be bust in NZ. They are delaying the inevitable. The rest of us have meekly let them have their way on the laws, but there are only so many financial tricks they can pull before the NH unions wake up. Then they will go from King to bum.

Perhaps Bryce is the best senior male ref? In which case of course he should be nominated alongside the best newcomer and the best female ref.

The inconsistency with which he makes decisions does make you worry about the standard of reffing in NZ if he is the best!

In all seriousness. He was always going to be nominated. Irrespective of his performance in the semi, he is the only NZ ref in the world cup (Walsh now reps Australia). I'm sure Alan Rolland, Craig Joubert and Nigel Owens will all be niminated for their respective countries awards.

Putting the obvious to one side for moment, it is seriously good that Glen Jackson is being recognised here. From the games I have seen him officiate in he has really impressed. I hope he kicks on to become our premier ref, dislodging the unfortunate Bruce from a spot that has only brought him trouble!

Just need a few ex front rowers to start turning to the whistle and scrums would soon be sorted out!

Alain Rolland is the only ref deserved on this accolade.

He is the only one who has the bottle to RED card a player for a dangerous tackle. Thought everyone agreed that over the past few weeks....

This is the same Bryce Lawrence whose refereeing of the scrums in the Lions-SA test match was so appalling that he made Tendai "The beast" Mtawarira look like a top notch prop....
