Bournemouth Open
First topic message reminder :
The Bournemouth Open Week is again coming up in June this year and has a variety of events.
There are comps for male and female players of all handicaps and ages and they offer a good opportunity for us all to enjoy some competition golf at reasonable courses for very low prices. As well as bragging rights should you win one of them!
I've entered and D4S will also be there... and it seems that Mave might also be working on the other half to get down there.
Is anyone else interested?
website link is:

That contains entry requirements, fees, and other useful info.

And Mac. The 3rd person part you refer to is monster-LJ.
So that'll be 2 days on the beach for clan LJ as we've got invitation day on the Saturday

Aww cute LJ, soon you will be skipping golf to go look at interior design stores.
I really wish Bournemouth wasn't about 3 days trek away as this event sounds real swell. Would also like to meet the person who thought procreating with LJ was a smart move.

Mac - why not think about taking the whole week off next year and playing? There are several competitions for all abilities - even mixed ones if you can bear it - and plenty of B&B places to stay. I used to live in Bournemouth (was Ladies Sec of Bournemouth & Meyrick Park for 5 years) and played in the Open week a lot. Also went and met both LJ and D4S last year - scary

Tis true D4S and they have been informed of this. It may even be three on the beach as i offered bagman duty to shanking and she also knows about that offer. Depending on how early i can get there.
Mac. Its only an hour by plane into bournemouth international

What was more scary however... Myself and D4S? Dewi the wonder golfer who performed trick shots to order? Or that bloke asking if we were the guys from 606?

Re: Bournemouth Open
Dewi was a "9 handicap" golfer who used to be a welsh amateur international (according to him). His first tee shot went 75 degrees left of target (he was a right hander) and hit a railing an inch thick. If it hadn't done that he would have killed a bloke standing next to his car outside the clubhouse. And that wasn't his worst shot of the day. Apparently in however many years of playing the full 72 hole and the 36 hole scratch down in Bournemouth that was the first year he had managed to break 100 gross.

He's an imposter, posing as a single figure golfer. Highly entertaining to play with if you are out for a laugh (sadly, at his expense) but not the sort of person you want to play a scratch open with.
He did shoot the lowest score of the day though. But he only played 18 of the 36 holes as he forgot to set his alarm clock or something in the morning

I'm down to 16.8 now, so I'm a loooonng way off single figures. Need to be shooting a few rounds in the mid 70s to get anywhere near that sort of handicap.

it never bothered Dewi. And I reckon that off playing off 17 and giving him a dozen shots you could have handed him his backside in a sling.

I've played Meyrick Park before, and I would have been inclined to come along but June is bad for me.

Re: Bournemouth Open
Hi LJ - not sure if you'll get this due to the lag but it's that bloke from last year's Bournemouth Open (please don't be afraid, it's not just you I'm stalking!) - where's the ironic look emoticon, can only find the hump one?.
As someone said on the "old" 606 there are a lot of people who read these posts but never bother to contribute for various reasons - mine is that it's a work lunchtime distraction where I can't contribute, but couldn't resist the chance to reply to this.
Thouroughly enjoyed meeting and chatting with such "famous" names last year (hi to the other 3 too) and apologies I never did bother to log on as I said I would.
Don't think I mentioned at the time that I beat you and D4S that day but then I wasn't Dewied so should make allowances.
Will be visiting Silloth in a couple of months thanks to D4S's (amongst others recommendation) and still enjoying the various insanity that 606v2 now offers so do keep up the good work and might bump into some of you around Bournemouth again this year as will be playing Saturday at least with 3 mates and staying over Friday night.
Thanks to all for the entertainment/information (please get Kwini over when 606 dies!)

Re: Bournemouth Open
No not looking likely as 2 of the friends (who didn't play last year) aren't single figures so likely to play somewhere like Isle of Purbeck as a "friendly" on Friday instead and all playing the Greensomes on Saturday.
Enjoyed Friday night in Bournemouth so much last year couldn't tee off on the first on Saturday for fear of repercussions - wouldn't have on 2 & 3 either if partner hadn't lost his drive on both.
Friendly place Bournemouth. 8)

Bournemouth 'International' Airport alert.
The spivs who run the car rental say that after 2pm on a weekend is outwith normal operating hours and try to charge you an extra £30.
PS
It is like ariving at a WW2 airbase, you expect the staff to be wearing handlebar mustaches and calling each other Caruthers old boy.

Welcome turnip! I'm not playing this year either as am now doubly bionic with 2 new hips and am just starting to get back into playing. Trouble is I'm not a member of a club any more so don't have an official handicap which would prevent me from playing in future years until retirement beckons

D4S, LP - thanks for the welcome. Don't log on at home too often as work with PC all day and want a break frankly, hence delay in replying to you guys(/gal) too.
Will keep on reading and probably dip in the odd conversation now that I'm signed up.
Don't know plans for Bth yet but hope to bump into some of the 606's if I get the chance.
Best of luck avoiding the dog poo!

Speaking of which... I feel it is time to tap my local resource for the information I require.

Avoid anything of a marginally family oriented nature if you please. Only the 5 star nastiness will do.
thanks

What is it with this forum, does every thread have to be turned into some non golf related personal immature conversations? Can they not take place in private?
There seems to be a distinct lack of real golf talk, unlike the BBC version, shame really.

This thread was started in relation to the Bournemouth Open. Which a fair few of the posters on it are playing in.
In addition what's wrong with people having a laugh with each other. If you can't then don't post. It's that simple.
Finally... If you want 'real' golf talk. then start a thread instead of trying to be clever about other peoples conversations.

Re: Bournemouth Open
Yes I was hoping to read about the Bournemouth Open, which I have, but only after sifting through all this stag do rubbish first.
Nothing wrong with a having a laugh, that's what can make a forum good fun, but it just seems OTT to me, every thread I open I normally have to sift through some personal conversations first to get to the subject of the thread!
So far I have learned all about your stag do and some Korean dogs!
If this is how the owners want this to be then fine, it's just not for me that's all. I think there's a chance a lot of other prospective new members would feel the same. It's a bit too clicky.

Considering the stag do rubbish was the last few posts there is hardly any need for sifting.
And I think the other thread was tongue in cheek from the very first.

LJ/JPX - stop bickering please.
JPX has expressed his opinions; some may agree, some won't.
Even though the old 606 had much stricter moderation when it came to "off topic", I can't agree with you that the BBC had more pure "golf talk"
To all of you -if you find a post to be irrelevant, or off topic, then just ignore it. If you REALLY feel strongly about it, then use the "report post" button or contact an admin/mod.
Conducting slanging matches (or complaining about being off topic, which is itself off topic) helps no one

Re: Bournemouth Open
It's true that BBC606 talked more about the pro game and the weekly US and Euro tournaments.
Here the balance seems to have moved more to our own golfing experiences.
I see no reason why there shouldn't be room for both - and if that includes some of the conversations that go on in our own respective "19th holes" then so be it

Yes apologies Davie, I know my comments are quite ironic considering what I have said!
I mean no offence to the other contributors, and maybe I got out of bed on the wrong side this morning, but it just seems that the last few times I've checked in here I've had to read through nothing but non golf related to get to the point of the thread. They're certainly not 19th hole comments either.
I don't feel the need to report these posts, they're not offensive, I suppose it's just the qty of off topic comments got to me today.
Maybe I should stay as a "reader only".
