Woodward supports Johnson
And by inference condemns Squeaky.
This is as I write being broadcast as a live interview (0900 Sunday) on 5 Live.
No doubt the iplayer link will be posted later...
He says that the RFU should have been more confident in supporting and encouraging him to go forward at least until after the SIs to give a space for reflection and assessment.
I agree.

Hmm, all a bit too late for Johnson though isn't it?

Not in the context of the overall of the RFU's total mismanagement.
All of these decisions are being made arse about face. The continuing trend in the entire structure is to cauterise their own orifices in order to maintain the status quo. I honestly believe that they put their own interests above English rugby.

Re: Woodward supports Johnson
Although Sir Clive Woodward has said he does not want to coach England again, he also said the he tried to talk MJ out of taking the England job.
MJ had no experience of Coaching, Management of a set like England Rugby FootBall Union.
The RFU new he had no experince and yet they still went ahead and hire him any way. MJ had a slow start but did make progress with the team he had put in place. So after 3 and a half years in charge and a quarter final exit and he had to go, why maybe if the RFU did not expect too mutch opf the England team after a short time in charge.
Rob Andrew hired MJ and Rob Andrew Fired MJ. But who going to fire the Hirere, in other words who going to fire Rob Andrew. For the sake of the England rugby team.

The skiddies on the Y-fronts of England's managerial/coaching problems can be dealt with in one way or another.
The bigger problem lies in another analogy - the Emperor's clothes.
I am that child that sees the [RFU] Emperor as being naked. Plus his entourage and his Emirs...

The last I'd want to see is the RFU naked
The wru were there original shower of sh1t - but all can see that getting it right off the pitch has paid dividends <- this can be painful for grass roots clubs and supporters, but it had to be done!

Re: Woodward supports Johnson
majesticimperialman, it was of my belief that Rob Andrew sacked Ashton and was told by Martyn Thomas to hire MJ, someone please correct me if i am wrong.
Rob Andrew has made a right kok up of all of this and has accepted absolutely no responsibility. For the sake of English Rugby, i hope the next manager they choose is a very strong personality and will not take RA seriously.

Re: Woodward supports Johnson
Haven't listened to the interview, but seems strange, because all his other comments on Johnson this weekend have been that it was a mistake for him to be appointed and he wasn't the right man for the job.
If he was stating that Johnson should have stayed till they found a replacement, then that's not really full blooded support and the title of the topic is a bit misleading.
