The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing pictures of Rhys Priestland, Cian Healy, or the special one of Charlize Theron and Gibbo above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Hoi Glas.
Those 2 are such rugby darlins, they will spend the time praising each others teams to the Heavens.
Sickening.

Of course, how could I forget. Him and his book of inappropriate haikus. The man is a comic genius. An Irishman with a Brazilian wife living in Belgium and travelling to Galwey for every 'home' match. My hero!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Evening all,
Anyone here know much about Basketball?
The middleP has been playing after school for a few weeks and was taken to play at a tournament today. At the end a coach from a local team approached her and asked if she would be interested in playing for their U14 team. She's 11 just now.
So chuffed that she has found a sport that she is better at than any of her siblings!
We want to see if Santa could produce some BB stuff but don't know enough to pick what might be of use/good/fun/robust!
I posted a thread on the Basketball wall but it doesn't look as if it is a busy spot so I thought I'd see if we had any experts in here.
As usual, all advice gratefully received.
Just spotted Props celebration!
Keep up the exercises!!!!!

Good! Anything planned for the weekend then lads? I'll be trying to sell a car at auction, moving some sheep, then catching a train to the smallest town in Britain for a Beer festival. It has three pubs and hardly any women. But funnily enough, we always seem to have a whale of a time!

MrsP with Bball it seems to be shoes are a biggy! Umm obviously a hoop and ball would work. There's a british basketball women's league too so maybe a top?!
I know the exercises are working...was going to go to the gym tomorrow but think i'll continue the rehab with some running and jumping in the swimming pool.

MrsP - in two years of trying, I think I scored once in basketball, safe to say I am most definitely not the person to ask! Am sure others in here will know though.
And evening all, just back in for the gym. And no, that's not some chips and curry sauce you see, I was good and didn't buy any. At all.
Gibbo - so glad you got to meet up with Ummm, if/when you meet up again, make him sign up on here!

MrsP,Get her a proper back board and ring, fixed on a wall in the yard at reg height, and then find out if she plays with full size Wilsons, which may be a mite a)large,b)heavy, and then get her running rings round her siblings

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
MrsP, Sicky T played Bball. I know a bit about it. Obviously basketball shoes, if she is interested maybe a home hoop. You can get some in argos for less than a €100. You would see the players wearing things called Arm sleeves They usually wear longer shorts like so: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nike-Kids-Basketball-BACKCOURT-Shorts/dp/B004BUPPXC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322081022&sr=8-1
Coach Carter is a decent basketball film and you can't go wrong with Space Jam either!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Mrs P, I believe that young boys interested in rugby should play basketball untill they hit puberty either with or preferably instead of rugby. It develops vision and handling skills and the non contact means later developers are not over faced. However instead of that, rugby in schools is crumbling and club rugby us dominated by pushy fathers
Get her an undersized ball and a proper hoop

Yeah Mick(),
I was wondering if girls her age have the hoop at the same height as adults. 10 feet apparently. Ladies definately use a smaller lighter Bball than men but I would think girls use an even smaller, lighter one.

Glas, 5 a side and 6 a side soccer is also useful. So little space helps you look for gaps and helps your vision. Good for both soccer and rugby. MrsP I had a hoop at home and you can adjust a lot of them so there should be little problem there.

We were going to get a hoop but aren't sure whether to go for one attached to the house, (disadvantages- can't adjust it, funny shaped house with big windows making locating a suitable spot tricky) or one of the ones a stand, (disadvatages-the ones that go to 10 feet are pretty expensive and the cheaper ones look a bit flimsy).

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yes, as long as the no kicks over shoulder height and no deliberate use if the wall rules are applied. I was a terrible footballer as a kid. A Few years ago a gang of us started to play 6 a side weekly for fitness. Then we had a young farmers football competition, which I was dreading. It had been 12 years since I'd been on an outdoor pitch. I was still terrible, but didn't get sent off for being that bad this time, which I thought was an improvement!

Mrs P I play a wee bit of basketball on occasion. For me the main thing is a decent set of shoes. Comfortable with some cushion cos you move about a hell of a lot more than people give you credit for. Wrist bands are also useful for keeping the sweat off you paws.

Hoi Dreamer.
I try to convince him to join. We keep in contact. He would be up for a meet. Really cool guy.
Do I have to do anything on the Scarlets tickets? Money? Favours?
Really looking forward to that game. Its grown in its importance by the week.
Im getting a Scarlets jersey & scarf off Santa for the game. They are the Welsh Leinster, imo.

No offence like, but that is like saying he played for Liverpool at Croquet.
I blame tramadol and biofreeze.
No, T national representation at any sport is an honour pal! I'm very proud of you. Did you play against Wales when Richie Collins was playing for them?

Hey, don't say that too loud around here. There has been rustling off the hills. Over 400 sheep have been stolen off of the Black Mountain. At £80 live or £3-400 as Smokeys up in London, somebody is getting greedy. The farmers have put up a £14,000 reward for info that leads to successful prosecution.

Tis Glas you need to talk to about the tickets, he sorted all the terracing ones.
And aaah it would be amazing for Ummm, to make a meet some day. I really hope he does
The game is going to be mental, keep ranging from complete fear to complete excitement when I think about it. And you'll look lush decked out in all your Scarlets gear!
