The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing pictures of Rhys Priestland, Cian Healy, or the special one of Charlize Theron and Gibbo above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
My mate got chatted up last night, sort of. A girl came up to him and pointed out her sister, she then said "you hurt her and I'll break you, but you two can stay the night in my house"
And I thought mid Wales was quiet!

Dreaner it is very surprising, there's a thread on it in the football section. RIP Gary.

Just saw that RD. Unbelievable. Saw him on football focus yesterday and he looked in good form. Genuinely unbelievable.

That's what i've been hearing that he took his own life, shocked and stunned, here's hoping the press give his family time to grieve.

I'm not a football supporter (both of my brothers are) but I'm shocked to hear about Gary Speed. My friend just mentioned it on her Facebook page now. I remember him playing for Wales - he seemed like a decent sort, and the Welsh footie fans looked happy he was their new coach. The fact he's taken his own life just makes it desperately sad. May god rest his tormented soul.

I always find it so sad to hear of these stories. I wish people could feel they can talk things through and sort things out before they reach that point - especially men. It's a terribly sad situation, and I always wonder if people in that position would have done it at all if they had more time to stop and talk about what's bothering them. Poor Gary.

Shay Given starts the game with tears streaming down his face, Craig Bellamy requests to be omitted from the city game today, Savage looks absolutely heartbroken on BBC news. Shows what a massive blow this is.

Oh dear,
Just popped in to find this very sad news. Most of you will know that I don't follow footie so I've not heard of the poor man but it is just such a tragedy.
Any one can suffer from depression and this can seem like the only option you have open to you at that time.
BUT IT IS NOT!!!!
There are ALWAYS other, better options.
Please all promise yourselves right now that if you ever find yourself in that sort of frame of mind, that you will talk to someone!!! The Samaritans are always there and I actually think that the little community we have on here would always provide a listening ear.
Please, talk to someone.
Sorry to lecture, but it is just such a terribly sad situation that it needs to be said.

Willy - that's how I heard about it. My friend's a big football fan and she posted asking whether or not the Welsh boys should be playing they all looked shell shocked.
MrsP - you're absolutely right, and it's not a lecture. I lost one of my pals through suicide and I really think that she didn't mean to do it - if someone had been there to talk to her, I think she wouldn't have done what she did. She was only 21.

That is a bizarre thing. I never met Speed, but he was SOLID or at least gave that impression. Just goes to show. I think you are onto something with men Cari. I think the idea should be promoted that the manly response to the black dog is to recognise it and talk about it early doors.

I can't put it into words enough how much it helps to talk about it. MrsP is completely right in this.

Glas - Men have emotions too, some of the negative ones can be very powerful and can erode the soul if you let it. It is possible to talk yourself out of it as quickly as you talk yourself into it. Just need some help sometimes.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Right, life goes on, we can't help the great man now, God rest his Soul.
After amount of reflection we should get on with it or we'll all be depressed and all.
Let's talk rugby. Pete raised an important issue for me last night which cut through my alcoholic haze. He mentioned that Irish declined a conversion attempt to wind the clock down at the end of the Wasps game. He asked whether Stag and Munsty had views on this.
Well I don't care about the lawbook, I believe that unsporting conduct is a catch all that remains on the books. As far as I can see you can use all sorts of advantages to try and win a match, but seeking to use the laws of the game themselves to confer an unnatural advantage should lead to a penalty kick. In the 6N when Wales stole the game off Scotland in injury time and almost did the same against France, I believe that deliberately kicking off into touch should have lead to a penalty to Wales. People say well you kick to touch to end a game, it's just another kick to touch. No it isn't. Kicking for touch is a part of the game. Kicking off to touch is not.
As an aside if the scrum half of my team kicks for touch to bring the first half to an end or to settle for a draw as the Ospreys did I think his coach should give him a bollocking

No, I had a good sweat on sawing up logs and then went to move sheep and fingers crossed it seems to have passed me by.
May need some Gaviscon before bed though. My guts are not used to quality real ales. I quite liked the Carmarthen Pale ale, I think that was my favourite. Black Sheep Best and Felinfoel Best were good. But Gundog smelt of wet spaniels

Afternoon all. I went to my dad's for lunch and my youngest sister dropped into conversation that Gary Speed had died. I was, and am, genuinely stunned by the news. As others have said, he was on Football Focus yesterday and seemed fine. So much for the eyes being the windows to the soul. No one can know how someone else feels unless they share those feelings.

Cari: in my work i've dealt with and experienced how hard it does seem for people to truly admit how they are feeling. I hope that one positive (if you can call it that) from this and Collymore talking about depression is that EVERYONE realises that services are out there and these services get more recognition on tv than blydi DFS sales during ad breaks.

I hope that's one positive thing that comes from this story too....Ah I won't rant on about the state of things it'll bring the pub atmos down.
It's nearly the end of the weekend. It's gone too quick for me....

Still, it's also nearer to Christmas. I've got to start posting my cards next week - always do at the beginning of December.

I had a very disappointing match today, lost 2-1 one of those games where you do everything buyt score could have had 6 or so on another day.

Just to say I'm so happy that Luke O'Dea scored a try on his debut for Munster last night. I saw him score many tries for my brother's team over the years and knew he could go along way.

roddersm, agree with ya. Still stunned about gary speed, R.I.P,
watched him on football focus yesterday and everything seemed fine. Watched robbie savage on bbc news earlier, and he was clearly gutted, as was Shay Given before the football earlier.

I'm gobsmacked. Not that I'm massive football fan or knew much about him but hes the last person you'd expect to take their own life. He was universally liked and respected by his fellow pros, was so clean living and professional as a player and looked to have a great career in management ahead of him. It seems to have come totally out of the blue.
Its a total tragedy.

Munsty I think some of the pressure is due to their exorbitant wages.( did I spell that right?) They are under a lot pressue to play well given what they are paid.

robbie savage was gutted on BBC. Shay Given started the game and was in floods of tears before the start of the game.

Munsty, cracking match between ASM and Montpellier - I hope for Glasgow's sake that thy decide to focus all their energies on getting a top 6 T14 slot and give up on the Heino.

Thomond,
It is very much to do with that and the nature of football nowadays where the result is valued above all else.
Asbo,
Problem with Clermont is they can put out a weaker side and they'll still be a massive test for Glasgow. Nagusa's try for Montpol was an absolute cracker though.
Did you see the Edinburgh game?

Are we staying for a few pints in Cardiff too As?
Would like to meet Cari for a coffee in the Diff.
Meeting PJHolybloke and his Mrs for a pint in Bath also. So a venue would be handy up front. Busy times.
This shouldnt be called The Big Meet. Should be called the Asbo Tour.
Its your gig man and you have done a stunning job organising it... if I may say so.
So thats it. The Asbo Tour.
