It's up! It's over! He's done it!
"This is the one. He drops for World Cup glory... It's up! It's over! He's done it! Jonny Wilkinson is England's hero yet again"
It still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, what a wonderful day for English rugby so I couldn't let the anniversary go by without mentioning it.

Such a shame Hersh. I thought you were going to say Rob Andrew resigned. We can dream can't we?

Why Geordie, we still celebrate Christmas!
There is plenty of mileage left in it yet, don't forget we reached another final in 2007 and a 6 nations championship in 2011 plus we beat Aus down under and we scored the best try in Twickers history and maybe rugby unions.

I dont celebrate runners up though Hersh....and 6n was good but the pounding from Ireland took some of the shine off that aswell.
Once a tourney is done its done...move on to the next....and your only as good as your last one....which wasnt great if your an England fan.
Blimey is this monday morning blues again...

Why all the doom and gloom we only lost one game in the RWC not like others who lost more yet believe they have had a successful RWC?

It was a great day, fondly remembered by most... but we haven't done anything since to repeat that success.

Yes,a Great Day,but like all RWC winners, the fall is sad too.8 years now of RFU incomptence 4 Manager?coaches gone or sacked SCW knew when to get out near the top.
A Brief flash of hope 2007,lets hope we get it right this time and build for 2015.
Maybe the Teflon man won`t be there to nause it up again,England have a good crop of young players now.
Proper Support network this time and 2015 could see another RWC maybe?
Lost more matches, but had a good RWC?only Scotland does that apply too in the big 8?

You can't honestly think that. How many defenders were beaten? Three? Four?

I see no reason why people cant celebrate this day, it was one of the best moments in RWC History for me.
As a Munster and Irish fan, i know how exciting it is to win a match by a DG but to win a world cup final, thats special.
Enjoy the day lads

I did, Geordie. I did.
On the wider topic, though, England are still the only northern-hemisphere nation to have won the World Cup. Fair play to them!

you missed the "it's coming back... to Jonny Wilkinson!" after "This is the one". Sad to say I used to have the podcast of that moment, and would listen to it to cheer myself up once in a while. Loved the "he drops for World Cup glory!" line

Yes we did and im a passionate England fan...remembering drink Newcastle Brown Ale at half eight in the morning watching it.....it was brilliant...
But its 8 years ago....and the current state of our team and the RFU as a whole is not encouraging me that we can repeat this great feat anytime soon...which is where all teams are striving....

England have a lot to be positive about, we have lots of talented players waiting in the wings to get their chance at international level, we just need to get rid of most of the RFU and the sad excuses that currently coach the players, how is Wells still there I don't know.
Its not rocket science to pick the form players form the Prem in their positions they play for at club level and give them a white shirt with a rose on it, the players themselves should have the fire in their bellies to perform with passion and determination at that level, which lets face it is all us England fans want to see.

I wonder if it wasn't HERSH who posted this would people have got as cranky.
Fair play it was a fantastic World Cup victory and I can only imagine how excited people were. I know in Munster we still talk about the Miracle Match of January 2003 so who am I to give out about living in the past.
A great memory for all Englishmen I am sure.

Re: It's up! It's over! He's done it!
yeah, the amazing finale of 4 years of build up. An English team full of leaders and pretty much filling the World XV by all pundits.
With the mad professor Woodward in charge and despite being behind in nearly every match at the second half, we always seemed to produce the goods when we needed it.
11 pints that morning and the most amazing hangover in the evening, couldn't speak for a day afterwards....couldn't stop grinning either

That day was the most exciting day in English rugby. Not only for England but also for the NH, being the only NH team to win a RWC, it is just a shame that England could not keep up with the rest of the world RWC wise since then.
Will 2015 see a second RWC win for England? we can only hope so.

So 8 years after the event, very much not a non-event for you HERSH. Fair enough. Great game with plenty of drama and deserving champions.

Sometimes the plethora of talent is the problem in terms of continuity of selection and opportunity, but talent has never been England's problem the whole set up of the RFU and elite rugby in England is like the Titanic.
