Rio Ferdinand knows his tennis
Huge Roger fan; cited his class and ease, and the single handed backhand as the reasons. Excellent man.
Pity you play for such a garbage club.....

BB, did you notice, when our man was playing on Tuesday, there was a billboard behind him that read out, aptly, 'Magic Magic"?
and some of the slowmo replays of his single handed bh at full stretch were breathtaking.
when he retires, i think i will go into a lull till the next genius comes along.

I'm bored with the "Ssshhhh" banner and it's a bit too deferential for my taste.
The slo-mos on the bh were great, though frankly the whole thing was pretty enjoyable!
I 100% agree that if he were to retire tomorrow I'd find it hard to muster enthusiam for the game until the next one came along. I guess tennis actually has great potential to be a bit boring! Think about watching badminton or squash, which in some countries is actually used as a way to force prisoners to reveal information despite being banned by the Geneva Convention.

Well they're a travelling Swiss contingent (I think) so - like the country itself - more conservative/traditional than radical/original !!
Either way, there seems very little prospect of them finding any future use for it once he's gone, so not even worth putting it in the attic. Unless perhaps for the sake of posterity ....

What's worse? The "shhh ....genius at work" banner or Federer tidily sweeping his hair on the side after a great point?

I am always reminded of Novak's wonderful locker room impression of the balletic and majestically disdainful Fed with that gesture

I like Roger but his ego is big! Bigger than Mont Blanc!
It will deflate in time, I am sure.

Beats pumping the fist over the chest. I can't honestly see what you're supposed to do that would be less immodest.

Re: Rio Ferdinand knows his tennis
It's that little wry smile at the end of a Fed genius point that takes the biscuit
I think there was some significant celebration after one of his early tweener shots (the very first time it appeared in the wild perhaps ...?) but he has since come to regard even those as fairly routine now .....

That's beasty! So we now have the Beauty and the beast in tennis....except that the beast just got spanked by the beauty.

If 2+2 still make 4 am I logical & coherent enough to conclude that Ferrer is a now a beauty

Why be falsely immodest...During my Cambridge days I proudly wore IT'S HARD TO BE HUMBLE WHEN YOU'RE THE BEST keyring...
Spare me this fake humility any day....

Ah but 'fake humility' is one thing nitb ...... and in-yer-face boasting is quite another
Especially when the fall comes ...... as it does for everyone at some point

Not really (the inevitability of fall)...People who are not fake genuinely have no trouble carrying themselves well through tough times , as well, Federer i the case in point, Nole as well.
Personally, Federer's arrogance sometimes was too much to swallow, but then again, that's him.
Nole's not arrogant, he's just cocky which is why him and Rog don't rub along well There's only room for one on the centre stage, two is way too crowded ...

Rio knows his tennis, shame he doesn't know when he is due for a drugs test
I like a bit of chest pumping. I mean come on, tennis is not for the 'classes'
I don't mind a brush of hair or even if a player twitched and gruffed.
If they started winding each other up on court, then no I would draw the line at that.
