Kirwan...England?
http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/international/6033739/John-Kirwan-sets-sights-on-England-coach-job
NZ hasnt ever really had much affinity with things England so this makes it all the more interesting for us.
Does he have the credentials (not that England rate that highly given MJ's pedigree when selected). As a player and person brings with it huge respect. Will his Japan World cup effort count against him?
Given the wealth of English resource available be great to see him work with some solid stuff.
Scored a couple of his best tries against England, one for Auckland I reckon was a ripper.

Japan did play wide expansive rugby which is what England fans have been crying out for over the last 3/4 years.
I'd like to see how Lancs does in the 6N firstly could be a great MANAGER for England.

Re: Kirwan...England?
John Kirwan, would be an excellent Coach on a temporary basis for England.
Having Coached both Italy and Japan, mixed Oriental /Occidentals in the Japenese side that lacked physicality.
Has just won the Pacific Nations 2011,and had good performances in RWC,notably giving France the hurry up.
I would have expected he would have been pretty successful with England
given the talent available.
Frankly I hope he is part of the All Blacks setup ,but without a Super Rugby back ground and being outside the country it is unlikely for now.
i reckon he would make an excellent AB backs Coach before taking over the big one.

Re: Kirwan...England?
Yes in smiths absence rhey need a back specialist. Having a self acknowledged focus on attacking rugby hed need a very strong forward coach at his side for england. Dont think hes quite a top 5 head coach yet.
One of my all time fave players at his peak in 87-90. Was lucky enough to play him at school and junior club before harty plucked him out of marist at 18 to score for auckland vs 83 lions. Legend.

Re: Kirwan...England?
What is the time line for selecting a new MANAGER/HEAD COACH.
Would Kirwin be better off as a Manager of the England team, with some one like Lancaster/Malinder being Head coach.

Re: Kirwan...England?
I'd have thought that the last thing that English rugby needs is a non English coach,Whats wrong with the guy that prepared that last England under 20 team? dont know his name but that guy whoever he was is on to it.
kirwin needs to get back here to Auckland and have a stint as Backs/attack coach for the Blues, then maybe snag a Super 15 job.

Yes laurie strange he hasnt pursued that to date already. He must be totally dismayed about auckland rugby since 97 as most aucklanders are. Though id certainly follow england if he were to be involved.
I think he'll end up in the ab mix somewhere, timing of his run needing a bit of luck.

Re: Kirwan...England?
I like Kirwan, fantastic player and i also think that he did a very good job at Italy and is doing ok with Japan.
He would certainly get England playing some expansive rugby which would be a good thing with the young England talent coming through.

Re: Kirwan...England?
Why does a team need a ‘manager’?
Seriously. Look at the the All Blacks, Henry is the head coach and coaches the defence. Hansen – forwards, Smith – backs with a few specialists here and there.
Did Johnson do any actual coaching?
Kirwan is a seriously good call, though I’d still like to have seen him go for the Wellington role and then apply some pressure to Mark Hamstring for the Hurricanes job but that’s purely for selfish reasons!
Kirwan can, as Henry did, take the Head Coach role and have the backs/attack role. He could fit in two other coaches as Forwards/Defence and keep Rowntree on as scrum coach
