The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing pictures of Rhys Priestland, Cian Healy, or the special one of Charlize Theron and Gibbo above the bar!
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Who do the Gweilch have reffing them then?
Sure, you're right about Nigel, but wasn't that down to weather conditions meaning the appointed ref couldn't travel. If it is Mr Rolland then I think they're easing him back in gently
I can't find anything, just the matches involving Welsh officials (Refs , Assistants and TMO) and I've seen the following referees
Connacht v Treviso - Neil Hennessy (WRU)
Ospreys v Munster - Peter Allan (SRU)
Dragons v Glasgow - David Wilkinson (IRFU)

Rav, not having a whinge (well, only a minor one!!), but why is it that if a non-Irish poster comments on an Ulster thread, you get ignored? Both Radge & I offered up thoughts on 'Ulster in Crisis', Staggy makes a similar comment 2 seconds later ...

Sorry As, the only thing I can think of is............ You're Scottish .
You will note I have abstained from commenting on the whole debate which will eventually get around again to Spence at 12, D'Arcy at 15 and Why is Faloon dropped again?

Flip sorry about that, was that the one about Lamont? Was thinking the same myself but Terblanche had signed already.
Besides its not constructive solutions we want, just a whinge about how bad things are. Stag always gets a reply because hes slagging us off....

Although in saying that, both you and Radge should be experts in dealing with Rugby Crisis, given your experiences with Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Scottish National side .
I do agree with Rodders though, we would much prefer you to make snide comments and useless suggestions............ a la Stag

Rava, theres no pleasing some Nordies. I say that Wannenburg is a top player and Ulster are lucky to have him and Im told no.
I say Ulster have a great 1st XV but lack depth and no no no theres a crisis afoot.
Who peed in their Harp!

And if they aren't the world of Ulster rugby will come crashing down around them.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Stag, my comment was a bit tongue in cheek.
I share the frustration of the Ulster posters but I don't yet think there is a crisis. I do believe we have punched above our weight somewhat during the last year and a half. Unfortunately many of my co-fans want to run before walking. You are quite right. We have 7/8 very good players, some journeymen and several good and promising youngsters. That adds up to a very competitive unit when everyone is fit for selection. It does make being competitive very difficult when 5/6 of the vg players are injured/unavailable or rested.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I remember saying to Notch that I though last season and still do think it, that Ulster have a first team who can qualify from most pools in Europe (I'd back them if they were in most other Pools) but would be extremely unlikely to earn a home playoff.
A match for anyone but lacking squad depth.
Would it be insulting to compare Ulster to the Scottish National Team. I think the analogy is similar.
Munster are more like England. Massive strenght in depth - the problem though is that the reason we have such depth is that our first choice guys aren't as good as the ones we used to have.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Yeah, it's become very tiresome alright. Very, very tiresome.
You're right about Wannenburg. Careful consideration of the lineout at Welford Road will show the importance of him to this team. I rate him as our second best lineout option and certainly our best tail jumper. Not to mention his physicality...
I can't wait for Ulsters next game. I'm all hurting and angry after Friday. I want to see these players make a rather forceful point. It's a very frustrating period. Our season is slipping away and it's time for a few big performances from players who have been lukewarm.

One other thing we have to start to accept is that the Pro 12 is a strong league. Wins are harder to come by.

Nonsense, Munster's 2nd XV won us the league last year

Quite right Lucky but I think the real frustration on Friday was that we couldn't overcome what was a poor Glasgow performance. I can suffer defeat (not well though) when we deserve to lose. It's the performances that are the problem.

True. Though its been pretty much the same this season

We deserved to lose on Friday. Bulk of the possession and territory yet did not create a single try scoring chance, go beyond five or so phases (that I can remember) or convert easy place kicks!
If you're not putting points on the board... well, you don't deserve to win!

Stag, Ulster never deserve to lose just like Wales or Welsh teams never deserve to lose. It's always Peter Allen's fault or some other ref.

Are you still thinking about coming up at New Year?
Need to know so I can decide how many days to keep the hungry.
Then I'll throw some lovely sausages in your pocket and leave the 2 of you alone!

Not enough funds at the moment Stag. I have a match that weekend anyway. I wouldn't burden you all with my ugly mug anyway. Thanks for the offer though.

You'll have to come to either Leinster or Ulster matches in Thomond. We'll bully a few more into coming and make a night of it.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
You might just find Belfast is a cold and lonely place in January if you don't start being nice to us Ulster fans!
Anyway, we are all a wee bit fragile just now on account of our team playing like a bunch of U14s!
