He doesn't like Munster or so we believe. He is a poor enough ref though. He rode us in the semi against Quins last year.

Ah, so what you mean T is that actually he is a very good ref who doesn't put up with the usual Munster nonsense at the breakdown then.
I get ya now!

Re: Romain Poite Noooooooooooooooooooooo
He has poor communication skills and cant ref a scrum to save his life.
Re: Romain Poite Noooooooooooooooooooooo
What Stag said. One of the quietest refs around.

Re: Romain Poite Noooooooooooooooooooooo
Correct, the disciplinary system is a farce, i stand by that.
Not sure what that has to do with this though. I never questioned any of the referees decisions, thought they all made correct calls, including Poite, who refereed our game with Edinburgh very well.

Re: Romain Poite Noooooooooooooooooooooo
You questoned the decisions to suspend them as much as the sentence no? Apologies if I'm wrong. I wouldn't be a huge fan of Poite as he has been very harsh on Munster in the breakdown in previous game and the scrum was also a big issue( Munster probably would have given up penalties against any ref though the scrum was that bad)

Re: Romain Poite Noooooooooooooooooooooo
I questioned the suspensions and the lengths of them in comparison to similar offenders.
In all four cases, Hala'ufia, Armitage, Hape and Shingler I believe that the referee made the correct decision on the field.

Roman Poite's performance in the Amlin semi was one of the best I have seen from a ref this year.

well no way can Nigel Owens be the ref, so it looks like the ref's going to be neutral this time.

You should like him if he doesn't ref the scrum. Your tight head standing up constantly would get away with it

Re: Romain Poite Noooooooooooooooooooooo
I like Poite as a ref, he's not great at scrums but he's one of the best at controlling the breakdown, and after we've seen what a farce a match can turn into when that isn't reffed properly like in the Scarlets v Dragons game, tis only a bonus for me. If Jonathan Edwards starts for us though he's going to have to careful, he get's pinged loads at the breakdown.
We've got Dave Pearce for the away fixture at Thomond Park, pretty happy with him reffing that game too.

I guess me, though Cole and Castro if anything go down rather than up. Cole started playing for England because of a game against Wasps reffed by Poite - so I guess he may like him. (Same game that ended Tim Paynes international career)

Re: Romain Poite Noooooooooooooooooooooo
He is a poor ref at scrum time but he is very very sharp and fair about the breakdown thats why Munster don't like him,
they can't lie all over the ball, hang on,come in from the side and linger offside.
Like the Quins game mentioned he reffed Munster properly at the break down and they couldn't live with the quickball it allowed Quins,it was a good game may i add.

Of all the hurtful things you could have dreampt up over years to say to me, that thoughtless throwaway line has carved me to the core.

Re: Romain Poite Noooooooooooooooooooooo
Ok I suppose I should back the article up with a little more substance. Two main reasons (but there are many others)
1. Munster All Blacks - the most inept one sided performance I have ever seen. I must have watched that game 20 times now and he only policed one team at the breakdown all night. It was disgraceful.
2. Franklin Gardens (think it was 2010). After Saints stormed into a deserving lead Munster clawed there way back to within one score. Camped on the Saints line with the 80 minutes up Northampton bodies coming in from every angle, off side and lying in the tackle he decides to call scrum as ball wasnt coming out (when it cleary was) and blows for ful time AAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH

So what you mean is because you didn't get the decision you wanted he is a bad ref?

Re: Romain Poite Noooooooooooooooooooooo
He isnt great with Irish teams in general and the two examples given show why Munster fans view this with trepidation. But thats the hand we have been dealt and it affects both teams. The new Zealand game was particularly bad but he was new. I think we lost the quins game for a whole lot of other reasons .
Doesn't instill a lot of confidence though

He is a very poor ref (very poor communicator), but on this occasion it might suit Munster. He hasn't a clue about the scrum, so he will reward the dominant one. BJ should have a field day.
George Clancy is reffing the Northampton v Castre game I believe

Pete, you got the suspensions you wanted and badmouthed the disciplinary system....
Rugby is one of the few games where communication from a ref is vital. Poite doesn't provide that. Also this notion that Munster are dirtier than others is horseshit.

Dirtier no, bit you are a bunch of spoilers. Fair enough, but man up when you get caught.

Re: Romain Poite Noooooooooooooooooooooo
Glas, Munster aren't the only team doing it like. Every team cheats, if you're good enough to not get caught that's another story. Leinster weren't ruled by the offside line last year at any point from what I remember.

Re: Romain Poite Noooooooooooooooooooooo
Hang on, you can't have it both ways. Either you are good enough not to get caught or you aren't. NZ are hood enough not to get caught by ANY ref. Are you annoyed at Poite, or yourselves for not being as good at not getting caught any more?

Re: Romain Poite Noooooooooooooooooooooo
I am not a fan of Poite but I also don't believe he is the reason we lost any of our games. He just doesn't seem to have any compassion for the game which I'm guessing can be infuriating as he refuses to talk to players when they ask questions.

This is my biggest qualm with him too.
Re: Romain Poite Noooooooooooooooooooooo
It is amusing that there are complaints about a ref's lack of communication, possibly because it is a second language, yet when French fans complained about what they view as Anglo-Saxon refs communicating with just one side they were told to man up.
