Dragons v Glasgow
Glasgow Team
Murchie
Lemi
Dewey (c)
Nathan
Shaw
Jackson
Pyrgos
Welsh
Hall
Kalman
Ryder
Verbakel
Forrester
Fusaro
Beattie
Bench: Gillies, Low, Reid, Harley, Wilson, McConnell, Wight, Dunbar
Glasgow have made a whole raft of changes for this game, certainly a selection with at least one eye on the HC next week. Hogg, Morrison, Weir, Cusiter, McArthur, Grant, Cusack, Gray, Kellock and Barclay are all left out the squad althogether. None are listed as injured so I assume in most cases (if not all) their omission is to allow them a rest.
Good to see Jackson back from injury and also Beattie back amongst the starters, both will be looking to impress in order to get a start next week in the HC. Bench look pretty week, especially in the backs.
Newport is always a tough place for us to get a result and I don't think with that team we will be able to get close enough to them to even pick up a bonus point.

Re: Dragons v Glasgow
Couple of things for the Dragons, The start for Steffan Jones at 10. He did quite well against Wasps a few weeks back and Tovey was poor against the Scarlets so will be interesting to see how he controls this game. Nice to see Steve Jones back in at hooker. Will sure up our scrum and he's never short of aggression. Also Tuilagi's first possible appearance for us off the bench. He won't be match fit for a few weeks yet but he may get 10 - 20mins I reckon.
I hope we get a BPW as we really need the points to catch up with the Scarlets. Will be tough though, Glasgow are on a great winning streak at the moment.

Suprised that Steffan is in instead of Tovey - besides your front row you're developing a very strong side

He had two very very good games for the NGD in the LV=
Exciting young talent and a very good ten. A lot of people didnt think Tovey played well last week against the scarlets, so could be a change due to form, though more likely that they are resting Tovey ahead of the Amlin Cup next weekend

Re: Dragons v Glasgow
We talk about must-win games but this really is a must-win game. If it wasn't for Aironi we'd be bottom of the table. Glasgow have looked really good this season - ignoring the trouncing they got at the RDS in the Heineken Cup - and we'll be missing our internationals. I really hope we'll get the result we need but I can see Glasgow winning and winning well.

Nah, Lucky, this is distinctly a Glasgow A team - would be surprised having seen the sides if the Warriors even get an LBP

Re: Dragons v Glasgow
I understand squad rotation but I thought the bench would be a bit stronger than that. With the Dragons missing a few players this could have been a good opportunity to get a WBP. Good to see Jackson and Beattie back and Nathan at 12 is interesting as well. One eye on the HEC for sure. Don’t expect Jackson to get a full game.

You have to be optimistic if you're Scottish! We got one in Cardiff so you never know!

Re: Dragons v Glasgow
I expected Tovey to drop down to the bench after the reports from last week. I would have liked Burns to have started really, but I'm sure he'll make an impact when he comes on, same as Tuilagi.
By the way (for those lucky enough to be able to attend), there will be a minutes silence for Gary Speed before the game.

Re: Dragons v Glasgow
There's been alot of criticism of Jason covey this week and I dont think it's justified. He's played some very good games this year (motm v ulster, great v perp).
Our attack was poor against the scarless but we couldn't get any good ball or go threw the phases when the forwards were either knocking on or getting turned over. Second highest kicking % in the league so let's not all get on his case! (he doesn't want to tackle though does he).
That said im really looking forward to seeing steffan gets start..

Is Jones now starting to overtake Tovey in pecking order or just bit of squad rotation?

Re: Dragons v Glasgow
We haven't won at Dave Parade since September 08 so I don't think that it will be a big Glasgow win - in fact, I'd be happy with any kind of win at all. Shame if we don't, though, Cardiff's horsing at the hands of Leinster have removed their 'game in hand' advantage and we'd leapfrog Munster into 3rd if we can take 3 or 4 points from this.
Not optimistic though - Dragons have excellent home form and were Glasgow's bogie team for the past couple of years.
Verbakel and Beattie have got to step up - so have Jackson and Welsh - their places are under real pressure and unlike last season, neither could be said to be the incumbent now.
Too early for Lamont to be playing - he should at least be on the bench for the Heineken Cup though.

If Beattie has a stormer today - and its overdue, as we all know- Lineen wil have some selection dilemmas for the Montpellier game next Sunday with Ramont, Low and Hall all back and added to our 20 from last week v Ulster.
C'mon the Warriors - its live on Alba btw

Re: Dragons v Glasgow
We have a pretty decent record against Galsgow especially at home and I cant see many of their fans travelling south for this one.
I hope we can get a win of any sorts for starters but a nice comfortable BP win would go down well befoe back to the Amlin and Sunday game against the Chiefs

30 mins gone and Glasgow get to the Dragons 25 for the first time! This really is a poor game from two poor teams, Tovey needs to come on fast to break the line.

It is RDW
Neither side getting clean ball, and when they do get a bit of posession, both keep knocking it on. Painful viewing.

Tovey on, but still mistakes costing both teams. S Jones gives away a stupid penalty in front of the posts, 3 points.
