Dragons v Glasgow - Page 2 Empty Dragons v Glasgow

Post by Dorothy_Mantooth Fri 02 Dec 2011, 11:48 am

First topic message reminder :

Glasgow Team

Murchie
Lemi
Dewey (c)
Nathan
Shaw
Jackson
Pyrgos

Welsh
Hall
Kalman
Ryder
Verbakel
Forrester
Fusaro
Beattie

Bench: Gillies, Low, Reid, Harley, Wilson, McConnell, Wight, Dunbar

Glasgow have made a whole raft of changes for this game, certainly a selection with at least one eye on the HC next week. Hogg, Morrison, Weir, Cusiter, McArthur, Grant, Cusack, Gray, Kellock and Barclay are all left out the squad althogether. None are listed as injured so I assume in most cases (if not all) their omission is to allow them a rest.

Good to see Jackson back from injury and also Beattie back amongst the starters, both will be looking to impress in order to get a start next week in the HC. Bench look pretty week, especially in the backs.

Newport is always a tough place for us to get a result and I don't think with that team we will be able to get close enough to them to even pick up a bonus point.

another 50/50, got to say I don't think I'd have awarded it, looked like he dropped it just before he grounded it, but that was v v close. Great finish and an almost brilliant tackle.

Let's see if this wakes up the sides at all. Glasgow down to 14 now so let's see what the Dragons can do.

Actually, it was in the penalty that led to the try. The ref was about to give a yellow but Wayne Evans took a quick tap. Ref remembered the infringement - good work from the ref OK Not too sure about the TMO though chin

Absolutely abysmal decision from the TMO for that first try - how could he have seen that there was absolutely no chance the guy was out?? His entire body was over the line practically - surely some part of his anatomy would have been touching the turf! The camera angles weren't great but there is no way he could have been certain, which he had to be.

TMO made up for it now though - would have though that 2nd one was a try!

I can't believe I've seen 2 tries given away like that, both by backrowers now, first by the Scarlets and now the Dragons?

Idiot, but you've got to feel a bit bad for him. He's going to be kicking himself. A very harsh lesson.

To be fair the number 6 had absolutely no reason to believe the Glasgow guy was steaming up the pitch there - the ball was dead!

14-14 cack game though, shame really if the Dragons had, had their best players available they may of gone to town on a weak Glasgow team tonight.

The WRU have really shafted the regions over the last 2 weeks.

14-14 is a fair result. Both teams played pretty bad, lots of mistakes. Dragons looked better with the ball in hand but Glasgow's defense was pretty solid. Overall, regardless of who was missing etc both teams will be disappointed, probably the dragons more so as it was a home game and they missed several penalty kicks.

The Dragons need to finish above Connacht to be the final Pro 12 qualifier for Heinaken Cup qualification, and it's not helping that a region with little depth is being shafted in this manner. They are an average team who have 4-5 really talented players who carry them through games with a loud and passionate home crowd roaring them on, you take away those few quality players and they are really struggling.

That Glasgow try should never have stood. Yes he got there first and grounded it but his knee was on the whitewash at the time so he was out of play. Poor decision. But equally poor play from Lewis Evans, just ground it man!

Alyn, maybe I'm reading you wrong but it sounds like you're saying that finishing above Connacht will give the Dragons Heineken Cup qualification? HC qualification is only for the 3 best Welsh regions so we need to finish above another welsh team to get in, not above Connact or any other non-welsh team.

Glasgow had a load of players rested or just back from injury - no way was that Glasgows strongest team. They are a bit cash limited so don't have the depth of squad of some other teams

Thats a really harsh blow for the Dragons and Wales - and I think it says something about how poorly the Dragons have been treated by the WRU when they only have 10 points. That just at the point when their bringing through so many exciting Welsh youngsters and are on the cusp of proving they are as good as any other Welsh region, the WRU overplay their players, get a few of them injured, put up a meaningless friendly meaning their players are missing again, and the WRU devise a schedule that means that all the Welsh internationals won't get a break from around Jun 2011 until around May/June 2012, as everytime the WRU release them from int duty it's just in time for important HEC games and then straight into some derbies before back into int duty.

Come on guys! I dont do 7s rugby. I'm a front row forward and I was always used to hold tackle bags for the loose forwards and backs to smash up at 7s time.

As for the club premiershio in all honesty I don't follow it as closely as Prem 2. Kirkcaldy is my local team hence I follow them in their league. It seems he has a reasonable reputation. Still sharp skills to get that try.

Hes a late developer, and while he might not have the potential to step up to international( id love to be proved wrong, as I loved watching him play for Melrose, and he seems like an honest player) he'll make a good club player. Good tactician, effectively steered Melrose to their most successful season in decades with his game management. Didnt get any chance to do anything tonight with proper ball with those dreadfull passes Pyrgos was firing all over the place

It was a poor game but on the plus side Beattie showed glimmers of his past glories. Hopefully he can use the time between now and the 6N to fight for his place at the no 8 slot.

Thought Beattie carried well for the most part and looked fairly lively around the paddock, whereas Jackson looked rustier than a very rusty thing. He'll need to do a lot better than that to shift Weir. Pyrgos box kicks way too much for my liking, someone needs to have a word in his shell-like. Glasgow front row, even with replacements on, had a field day, and Ryder showed up well in the loose. Nathan is an influential presence at 12 - I'd even consider playing him instead of Morrison if it's a wider game that we're after OK

I assumed Pyrgos box kicks were a preplanned tactic as he did it so often - just not executed well

I refer you to Law 22(g)

Player in touch or touch-in-goal. If an attacking player is in touch or in touch-in-goal, the player can score a try by grounding the ball in the opponents’ in-goal provided the player is not carrying the ball

From what I've seen of Darren Waters, he does seem like he has the makings of a tidy player.

Anyway, from the sounds of the game I am glad I am in Afghanistan Wink I do wish I was at RP to have finally seen Andy Tuilagi in the flesh though. As far as I know, he still doesn't exist.
