Federer set the standard at the US Open in 2010.....Then Nadal produced this ridiculous beauty!! Shot of the year by a mile. Sit back and enjoy! Smile

Good shot, and a lob was a good choice, but it's ironic that it was a mooner though!

Yes, it's a good lob...but frankly, when you are in a comanding position like he was on sec40, how on earth does he end up being chasing the ball 10 sec later and having to pull a desperate shot to win the point??????

THis point sums up Nadal's game so well: Uncapable of dictating!

Good choice LK. I assume Djoko's first saved MP against Federer will make the list at some point in this series. Wink

I also think this is a great shot perhaps shot of the year, but Federer had a contender as well when he turned and smashed a shot after running back on to the lob. vs Grannollers at Dubai
look in you tube for Federer's best shots of 2011 (PT. 1) as I can't post a link
~2:48-3.03
I did see this posted on another thread here I think, so you may have seen it.
This is the shot of the year in the category of most likely to emit funny noisy in front of the TV. Breathtaking!

Despite his not the most aesthetically pleasing style of play, Nadal usually produces one or two really stunning shots per match, usually running volleys.

I often wondered what kind of player he would've been if his uncle didn't have the Frankenstein idea of turning him into an unnatural lefty.

As for this particular shot, not bad, but I genuinely don't know what the big deal about the "tweener" is. OK, it may bi difficult to score a pint like that, but in terms of tennis shots it's right at the bottom for me. Nothing beats a drop-shot lob combo for me Wink

Highlights from Nole's breakthorugh tournament Montreal 2007 (the drop-shot lob combo match point incl Federer's failed tweener) at 8.40):

As usual against Nole Wink.

Those were the days when beating Federer made headlines.

Nole paid a heavy price for that win a few weeks later at the USO final.

Those 3 set points he saved in Montreal were likely in his head when he got himself to have 3 SPs in that 1st set of the USO final.

It was not Nole's time to win USO in 2007. He got physically ready only in 2011. You can see what I mean by physical strength when you see the size of him in 2007 and how little pace he had on his forehand. He certainly is not an early bloomer like Becker or Nadal. His time has come, though Smile AT LAAAAST!

I can't agree on this being the shot of the year. Regardless of where Djoko was, he would have executed it this way. All of his hotdogs turn out to be lobs because he's not very good at it. It's a spectacular point but not because of Nadal's handiness or creativity but because of the freaky outcome.
