Birmingham City have signed Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies on a three-and-a-half-year deal believed to be worth about £3.5m.

The 25-year-old former England Under-21 international had looked set to rejoin Leicester for a second loan spell.

Villa manager Gerard Houllier said: "He had the option to go to Leicester or to Birmingham and opted for Birmingham."

The proposed move the other way for midfielder Sebastian Larsson will not now happen.

Davies is not FA Cup-tied but is ineligible for Saturday's fourth-round fixture against Coventry.

Yes but Dann is injured and likely to be out for some time, so he will strengthen the defence. They looked vulnerable against City during the week
