You are of course entitled to your opinion. Mine is that Hussein was dreadfull tactically, certainly worse than Atherton and Vaughan. What he did do was instill a discipline in a team that was sadly lacking.

There have been no great test captains, only lucky ones with either a great bowling attack or weak opposition.

Couldn't agree more. The only place in the world now where people care about his 100th 100 is India. Outside of there it's become boring and overhyped.

Granted, it's an unbelievable acheivment, but it's dragged on now.

He hasn't got the best record has he. He did lose twice to Pakistan but they were the second best side in the world at the time.

Reason for my remarks about Gatting - a fine player and a good county captain, incidentally - is that his Test captaincy record is always covered up by the fact that he won the Ashes Down Under.
But they were THE ONLY TWO TESTS HE WON and against a relatively weak Aussie side.
Considering he had Gooch, Gower, Lamb, Botham, Edmonds, Emburey in his team he should have won more.

Although not born there, mrs was bought up in Daventry and informs me that she supports Northants CCC. There are however two problems with her comment

1) She has never been to watch a game of cricket in her life
2) We live about 5,000 miles away from Northamptonshire so I can't see number 1 changing anytime soon.

Please don't be fooled into thinking I support them either. Originally from North Nottinghamshire so it's the lads from Trent Bridge all the way for me.

Adil Rashid should have played more times for England.

I don't like 20/20 cricket, and refuse to go to any games in this format.

Every nations cricket boards are ruining test cricket with there never ending greed.

I don't understand why we have one day/20/20 games against countrys that arn't playing a test series here.

(Salman Butt was not banned for long enough - travesty that they effectively have the same ban)

To be fair, i haven't lived in Northants for 13 years, but i still follow them. Mal Loye's father was my dad's physio, so i met Mal a few times. Also played at the County Ground for my school.

King Beer - playing at the County Ground is not to be sneered at.

Many years ago, I played a couple of times at Tring. Although that's in Herts (I think!), Northants used to play the occasional match there.

Probably not far off the mark there, LT.

JT was poor last year by his standards, and he needs a big season with Notts if he is going to force his way in.

1) and 2) are hardly controversial. 4) is balderdash, Rashid by all accounts isn't a hard worker, which has nothing to do with the England selectors.

With Rashid it was something to do with his attitude on a training camp.

He seems to have gone backwards as a player since.

Patel was the one who failed the fitness targets.

The Australian team of the early 2000s would have demolished the Windies team of the 80s.

The South African players who missed playing international cricket due to apartheid (eg Pollock, Richards, Barlow etc) were massively overrated

If the DRS system had been in force during the last two Ashes series in England, Australia would have won the Ashes both times

Stella - according to CricInfo, Northants used to play one 40 over game per season at the London Road, Tring ground from the mid 1970s to early '90s.

I played a couple of works matches there in the mid '80s. Someone knew someone etc to get use of the ground and facilities. Not the best cricket ever played on that ground I'm sure but very enjoyable!

every counties ground should be used for international matches regardless of the attendence they would be able to get and it should be done on a rota to guarantee regular international matches at every ground
