Best fight to never get ROTY/FOTY

Afternoon

Ok so we've got the usual Ward vs Gatti etc as FOTYs (as voted for by The Ring)... What would be your personal favourite that isn't on the list?

Spinks-Ali for 1978 must be one of the poorer picks. 'Ring' bowed to the temptation of masking a great upset as a great fight. No way on God's green earth that it was a better fight than Duran-DeJesus III, Rossman-Galindez I or Palomino-Muniz II, now those were Fight of the Year 1978 candidates!

Mentioned it earlier today, but Whitaker-McGirt I is a favourite of mine. Not sure it could topple Carbajal-Gonzalez I (by far the best of that trilogy) for the 1993 title, though. Benn-McClellan was certainly a better fight than Saman upsetting Gonzalez, but given the tragic ending I can see the appeal in maybe wanting to honour it as little as possible.

Agree on Benn vs Gman Chris, if it weren't for the tragic ending it'd have surely been nailed on as the FOTY.

Was Carl Thompson ever nominated in his fights with with Chris Eubank, Ezra Sellars, Sebastian Rothmann or David Haye?

Surely those fights contained some of the best action seen in recent times.

Earl v Katsidis gets overlooked, along with Froch v Pascal if we may get recent for a second.


Was Duran v Leonard I FOTY?

JMM vs Katsidas last year was very good.

A fair few fights this year won't get the nod.

Was wondering about Duran-Leonard I. Seems it was edged out by Matthew Saad Muhammad-Yaqui Lopez II, so no complaints from me.

Might have got round of the year, but Williams vs Martinez I was a dam good scrap.
